Mega back door Roth question - I just started a new job and am signing up for the 401k. There are 3 options, pre tax, Roth or after tax. Am I able to contribute 19.5k pre tax and then additional funds after tax and convert the after tax to Roth? Or am I required to do Roth for my 19.5k to be able to convert? There is also an employer match, so does the provider track the amounts and earnings from different sources separately? It’s with Fidelity just FYI. Thanks for the help!

You can do pretax or Roth for the first $19500 (limit includes your contributions at previous employer). Employer match is pretax regardless. I do pretax because if you are doing mega backdoor then you'll already have a good Roth balance and then you get the current deduction in peak earnings years.

Confirm your plan allows for in service withdrawals or in plan rollovers to accommodate the mega backdoor process and if so then yes after tax 401k to Roth IRA.

Thanks so much! During onboarding they said mega back door is possible so I’m assuming they accommodate the process but will double check to be sure

Quick follow up - does the 57000 limit for 401k include the regular 6k you can do through a back door Roth? Or you can additionally do the 6k?

Good morning!

Still trying to figure out this whole Fishbowl thing, so here goes my first post.

I would love to get into provider credentialing, but all employers I've looked at want at least 3 years of experience. So, I'm looking at Provider Network Coordinator roles, because I'm finding some of those roles don't need AS MUCH experience. I'm a RHIT, and have been working in healthcare for nearly 10 years.

Any input on employers is appreciated!
