I was at WTW for 2 years, both on client side and then in a corporate function. When I was in corporate, I did a lot of competitive analysis work looking at Marsh and Aon. My conclusion was basically that Marsh is the place to be. Depending on the counter offer, I'd lean towards Mercer, especially since WTW are going through a merger and that might negatively impact contract workers!

I work in our Rewards business at WTW. Given the merger and Covid, we reduced our contractor spend, so unless we’re offering you a full time position, I wouldn’t take it.
That being said, I’ve only heard negative things about Mercer’s/Marsh’s Comp team culture compared to WTW. We don’t generally have jerks on our teams 😊
If you’re getting a full time position, then I’d go with WTW and I can give you some of this work I don’t want to do! Jk
While the Aon merger is on the top of our mind, if it goes the same way as the last big merger, it’s going to take 1.5 years to be fully integrated and absorbed by Aon.
I loved working with TMOA team across the U.S. great people, especially being on the broad-based rewards team vs. EC. Hopefully Aon realizes how valuable they are!
I would join WTW because then you’ll end up working at Aon, but I may be biased 😆

I've worked at both companies are both have their pluses and minuses. I enjoyed working at both. But truly, the location of the office where you'd be located would strongly influence my recommendation as the local team really does matter. DM me if you want to discuss.
If you’re passionate about compensation/rewards consulting in particular I think you would be happy either way! But once the merger with Aon happens, I think that’s what the majority of the work will be (McLagan, Radford, etc.) - and there may be more analytics opportunities. I believe with Mercer you might be able to explore do more HR consulting work outside of compensation, but just my guess!
Yup I agree with that, thank you! I’m also focused in the financial services sector so it’ll be interesting with Radford coming in!
I personally like Marsh & McLennan group, but both are good companies in that particular area, and specially now WTW being part of Aon is defficult to say. In my personal opinion I would analyze more the working environment team you will be working with. From a country to another is not the same.
