More of a vent: I hate seeing the Corporate Counsel Women of Color event and similar events when I know at least one panel members who did absolutely nothing when I was discriminated against by someone who was in her direct line of management (several levels). Seemed like a wonderful person and made an effort to help, but when the rubber met the road, the only course was to protect oneself and the company by referring to HR and stepping back. Fine with me but don’t publicly act like a champion.

Can you lose your job if you don’t like the animosity from your creative team and speak up about it ? Genuinely worried I might be disrupting the peace by saying something 🥴 the anxiety is terrible! Do I just accept it that they don’t like me or speak up and potentially burn that bridge?

Have you ever been told off by an older attorney of color? We have one Black partner at our firm and in conversation with him this morning he told me I should work on sounding and looking "more professional" and not let my "tone" or "bad attitude" get in the way. I don't think I've ever had a bad attitude at work, and whatever "tone" I'm speaking in it's my normal one. As a Black woman I just feel super weird about it and kind of sad.

I handleda very difficult and convoluted succession for a black family. My client was astute and intelligent. We got along great. His family was difficult. Willfully ignorant.
