My anxiety is far below surface level but now emerges when people email on the weekend or “after hours”, when I’m on nonstop video calls all day and when there’s forced zoom happy hours. Alone here?

The first zoom happy hour was fun and now they are just sad. Conversation is so forever because there is nothing new to talk about. I’d rather spend that time taking a depression nap thankyouverymuch

What usually CTO do?

Yep — I have to admit I haven’t called into a Zoom happy hour yet. I have my limits 😂

like

E1 — to be clear, I have time. But I also have my self-respect. 😉

likefunny

I don’t have kids so I don’t fall in to E1’s situation. What has helped massively and I cannot stress this enough - I leave my work phone downstairs with my laptop. No meeting notes, no emails. Nada. If you don’t have a separate work/ personal phone, consider turning notifications off after hours. I have used the do not disturb on iPhone before and it helps.

ie if you say “you don’t have to answer after hour emails” but leadership is still sending them, that’s a mixed and confusing message.

Can I work for you?

Not alone

like

I will say though. I find myself emailing more before or after hours and sometimes on the weekends, because I’m juggling so much at home, that having some flexibility in my work hours is the only way to get everything done. I try to remember to delay set, but I don’t always remember...

I’ve graduated from anxiety to irrational blinding rage when people pull this crap

like

Yeah anxiety was definitely a euphemism

I’ve never understood the issue with after hours emails. You don’t wanna see them after hours don’t check your email.

like

I avoid sending after hour emails and weekend emails. Even if people manage to ignore them, it still sets the expectation that to move up you have to be working 24/7. That’s not the type of attitude I like to cultivate.

It’s nice to have a call with your teams at least once a week where you laugh and catch up. Do it for the people who live alone and the extroverts.

like

The extraverts have had it far too good for far too long.

One...did anyone leave Accenture right after maternal leave? If so, what happened? Did they have to pay back anything?
