Never wait. This is your life and you’re only going through once.
No, you do you, but if you do take a new gig, a personal call to her to let her know would be a nice consideration.
As a manager who had an employee quit while I was on maternity leave I would have appreciated a call or an email from the employee informing me that they are giving notice. I found out through my manager without a word from my employee which I thought was disrespectful
no. someone will cover for her. you can always give notice to that person. and some managers make themselves accessible for extreme situations.
That’s what I was hoping you’d all say! I’ve only been here for 4.5 months, but this is definitely not a good fit for me and I’m antsy to move on. Thanks 🐠 🐟
Work is professional, its between you and the company. Always take care of yourself FIRST. Mentally, financially, etc. The company will always look after its health first, after all. Your boss is an obvious critical part of your work ecosystem, but her choice to be on Mat leave should not sway your personal decision timing at all. Be courteous and respectful and give her a heads up before you inform the company if you feel she would want that (who wouldnt?). Id make sure you are ready, and have lined up an new gig first or are ready to quit. I do not understand giving a boss a heads up you are looking unless you are ready to be on the chopping block. Especially given the current downturn in agency biz and end of year timing. Work is not personal. If you make friends along the way great, but best to always put yourself and your prospects first. It is possible to do this and not be an asshole.
No
Oh, to clarify as some on here seem to be confused / mixing up two different topics. No, absolutely do not wait for your boss to get back from maternity leave. And no, do not tell anyone you're looking to leave!!!! If and when you find new employment and have received an actual offer and you have accepted it, only then should you inform your boss by giving two weeks notice (in the U.S.). As a number of us said, this is a strictly business related issue between you and the company and your career choices have nothing to do with your boss' personal life circumstances.
I would definitely talk to her first! (We actually have a mutual friend, which makes it a little awkward)
No. Her mat leave is not your problem
No, this is business, nothing personal. And companies and managers are aware of this possibility all the time. Also, your boss may never come back.
Hell to tha nah. She will be preoccupied with her little one to be overly concerned with you.
Hell. No. OP
No, you don't. Just call her after you give notice so she is aware. It's professional, not personal
Fuck it. You do you.
Life is what happens to you when you’re busy waiting. Go!
