Approach him head on and say he misled you because everyone else got a raise :)
If you join after the cut off point for performance reviews, you don’t get a raise. Happened to me. I joined in June and wasn’t on a project long enough to get a performance review, thus, no raise. I did get a tiny little bonus though.
Hate to say it but that could’ve been his way of saying your performance is lagging and to not expect much this year
Could also have just been wrong/misinformed
Most cc’s there are not that good IMO. He either lied to you or was misinformed. Either way it’s time to find a new cc
Network your butt off and find someone better. Depending on where you are I could give you some recommendations, DM if you want. I’m based out of Chicago so I know some good options in the Midwest and out of the NYC office
Oh wow, as a cc I’ve had people not get raises because their salary was at the high end of the hiring range and they literally weren’t eligible. You all are brutal. I’d maybe just ask your project leadership about any additional context before being too dismissive of your cc.
Same case for me OP - I started before you and was told by my CC I wasn’t eligible for anything (raise or bonus) & my performance has not been subpar. I found a new CC that is substantially better though so hopefully midyears will work out :)
A4 - I have. My SM on my project was shocked and has already written up my case for mid years.
Getting into the right group affects it too. Each talent lead gets their own budget to distribute as they see fit (within their guidelines). Speaking as a CC, I was pissed to see councelees with fantastic performance get no raise while others in a different DTE got a bump just for being aligned differently despite a subpar year .
Thank you all for the advice! People I started with in June got a raise. As far as I know my performance has been stellar— and everything my direct manager an the MD on the project tell me seem to support this.
Fair point then. Get yourself a new one!
So just be careful about how you approach. They could have been misinformed. The talent lead now provides reason you didn’t get a raise normally, but it isn’t required. One mistake by your cc doesn’t make them bad, just makes them human
A5 I will say that personally if a mistake causes me to lose money I’m throwing my cc under the bus as fast as possible.
You don’t know that’s the case until a bit more investigation. See what they say, confirm with your talent lead. Don’t jump to conclusions.
Maybe work a little harder next year? ;)
Your CC should have gotten some data/rationale behind the comp info from your group's Talent Lead (this is different from previous years).. so the info your CC got likely applies to the people in your talent group, which is probably a different group than your "class", which is not a real thing... It's just the people who happened to have the same start date as you.
Would joining July be to late to have expected anything?
I never said jump to conclusions, I did say “they’re just human" doesn’t cut it when it comes to pay.
What group are you in?
Maybe he was just trying to be nice and make you feel better
