My firm (over 1,000 lawyers) just put a firm-wide “we need to talk” zoom call on all associates’ calendars for later today. No one knows what it’s about or will give any info. Not going to be a productive day.

There’s no reason you have to put up with a job you hate. I spent many years working in a toxic environment with a boss who gossiped and lead through fear. He wasn’t really much of a leader but basically a foreman. And he could make my existence miserable. I admit that it wasn’t easy to find another job but the bottom line is: trust your guts. If you feel something is wrong it’s because it probably is. Don’t second guess yourself. Look for options and and fight for your mental health.

Looking for advice:
My dept has 2 directors. One is so rude. The other ignores the issue. The previous HR director told me to report any issues because she was building a case (not appropriate info to share, I know). She's since left and there's a new HR director. This rude guy has recently sent me several very rude things through email and I'm debating how to handle it. Is it worth it to talk to HR? Im worried it'll just make things worse since none of it is "wrong", just rude and insensitive.

Recently joined TCS and hate the project here. Impossible to get a release from the project. I'm okay to quit. How do I break this to my manager?

My ASM is lazy and is incapable of doing the easiest basic tasks with recruitment. She receives all my end of day updates, is cc’d on all emails, makes me fill out 5 repetitive excel/smart sheet, and joins all my meetings but she still wants to call having me 5x daily about updates. I’m always the one to go to if other recruiters fail to meet client deadlines and cleaning up recruiters mistakes. How do I even handle this to begin with?

Just got let go and my manager said part of it was because I was looking for other jobs. I didn't look for other jobs at work, so I'm not sure how they could have known that unless a coworker snitched on me. Is it worth it to try and find out who or should I just leave it? Can't deny that I'm seriously pissed off about it.

Has anyone seen any unique places to find UX portfolios or post jobs other than the usual suspects?
Some UX Slack channels were doing well for a while but I definitely don’t see as much traction there. Meetups obviously came and went. Even the portfolio sites like Dribbble and Behance don’t seem that same.

If an employee mentions something disparaging or accusatory about their manager during an exit interview, how would you handle? What happens if what the employee said is slanderous and a “he said/she said” situation? I.e. employee claimed the manager made a disparaging remark about an item of clothing being worn by someone in accordance with their beliefs. If you opt to share the feedback with the manager, would the manager have a legal case against the company or former employee?

Welp! Finally got the axe today too. I didn’t even get to talk to my manager. One of the execs I support told me he’s very sorry and I was great, etc etc, but it couldn’t be avoided. Whatever. I kind of never want to work again. I’m heartbroken.

Any other first year associates feel like their firms don’t really appreciate how much COVID/WFH has stunted their development? I’ve been working at a biglaw firm for 5 months and don’t feel at all like a part of the team, and am extremely stressed out by the isolation of WFH most days. How do you properly vet a law firm? I feel the associates I speak with talk up the firm and aren’t always candid.

How are 1st year litigation associates dealing with WFH? I’ve been having terrible anxiety/panic attacks, and pretty sure my billables wont exceed 110 for April.
