See a dermatologist. That is not normal and OTC products are unlikely to fix it.
I’m allergic to petroleum products, so no Vaseline, CeraVe, or Aquaphor. The burning is a bit odd—definitely worth getting it checked. As for dryness, stick lip balms don’t do it for me. I’ve been using Josie Maran lip gloss (the original—on her website) and Rhode lip gloss, and my lips are very plump, hydrated, and comfortable. No dryness or peeling whatsoever. Seriously, I have like 15 tubes—a few I’m using and a bunch stockpiled. Applying a thick layer at bedtime works wonders! Also, make sure you’re drinking enough and getting omega 3 fatty acids (I use algal oil supplements bc I’m vegetarian, but fish oil supplements are the usual source for many).
I believed it’s called a windburn. No chapstick ever resolved it for me once it started. I would get red around my lips. I got prescribed “desonide” cream which is for skin irritations or have tried anti itch cream but it needs to be a steroid cream to help heal it. Hope this helps!!
I have the same issue. Exfoliating after brushing your teeth and lip mask overnight help but I have to do it every night. I saw a derm and they were not helpful.
DTA 1 - SAME! I have like 5 brands I rotate through
Definitely go see a dermatologist. Are you drinking enough water? Excessively dry lips could be a sign of severe dehydration. It could be eczema as well.
In the meantime (and I realize this may sound very strange, but trust me, it works) try using women’s nipple ointment. It’s made for women breastfeeding, but can also be used on the skin and lips.
I drink an insane amount of water so that is not it. In fact, it is worse when my lips get wet so I drink water from a straw. I will definitely check the nipple cream.
I’m curious, why no petroleum products? I’ve tried every chapstick out there and Vaseline is the only one that actually works. All the others just dry my lips out even more.
As others have said, talk to a dermatologist. Also make sure you’re hydrating.
Try checking for lanolin in your products. I'm allergic to lanolin & gluten and if either of those are in my lip products (wheat germ oil) I'll get burning lips. Dionis goat milk lip balm is one of my favorites & doesn't melt in my pocket. Www.Dionisgmskincare.com
Check the humidity in your house. Could be a cause.
You should do an allergy patch test. I know someone that did it and found out that they’re allergic to beeswax.
Well, that would suck now wouldn’t it. I am allergic to bees. I will say that I have quite an extensive collection of lip balms and not all are from Burt’s bees.
Mara has an excellent lip balm with moringa infused. I have very dry lips and I love it. I purchased it at Sephora.
I had something similar to this before and I needed a prescription cream that finally healed my lips, it was something similar to a cold sore brought on by stress - highly recommend checking in with a doctor!
Burt’s bees actually aggravates my skin (same with anything containing citrus or the “medicated” tingly stuff). You might just be using stuff that doesn’t work for you? Try something super basic like the Nivea or Vaseline lip balms.
See a derm. Steroid ointment has helped me a bit for flare ups. I’m a allergic to everything under the sun but still use what I can.
Vanicream ointment is the best other than prescription steroid ointment (since you can’t use all the time)
Just reread and see that I can purchase it myself.
It sounds like you are dehydrated, dry chapped lips are a sign of dehydration. Drink more water.
I honestly cannot drink more water without getting a catheter so I don’t spend my entire day visiting the restroom.
I have found that lemon balm (about $20 in Amazon) works longer for me. I have the same problem in the winter. Didn’t know it wasn’t normal since I am from the tropics. Over there I never need.

Do you have a link? When I search lemon lip balm on Amazon a bunch come up
Hi hi you might have eczema I hate it! What triggers me is dust! As others mentioned try a dermatologist they will prescribe steroid ointment but you need to figure out what triggers it. I also found that dairy was causing inflammation so I’ve completely cut off for 2 years now and I’ve seen improvements
I used to get it on my feet and hands but once I cut dairy I only get it on my lips. I agree with the other person don’t think you will make it. Not sure what your insurance is but I’ve done virtual consultation and had the steroid prescribed that way. But because you can’t use that long term you need to figure out what’s triggers your inflammation
chapstick is very waxy. try blistex. it will heal your lips, rather than just cover over the dryness
I don’t use petroleum products so use organic lip balm and Burt’s bees.
Chapsticks have wax in it. It’s actually not that good for your lips. Trying using products without wax.
