I tried cheap ones from Amazon. Expensive, second hand gaming chairs. Tried HM Aeron (second hand) and while I didn't like the bulk and the general design, I was sold on the mesh seating. I wanted to get the ErgoChair 2 from autonomous, but it doesn't have mesh seat.

Won't matter. They are merging. Wherever your first project is, book the chain at which your team stays. Make sure you contact the chain and ask for a platinum challenge or the equivalent. This can get you elite status rapidly.
SPG (1 Starpoint = 3 MRW Points) on the earning side. On the redemption side I'm kinda inclined to go with Marriott
SPG was recently acquired by Marriott. If you stay at either, you can transfer points to the other. Also, Marriott has various categories of hotels. Starting from Category 2 to Category 7 or 8 ( higher the category, more luxury, better location and hence more points to redeem). I would suggest you create accounts for both and redeem based on the best redemption option. Not to mention, if you achieve Gold/Platinum status with one brand, you automatically get the same(equivalent status) with the other brand as wel. Hope this helps. Welcome to EY. If you can, SPG all the way. Earning value is much better in my experience. I'm trying to enjoy SPG as long as I can before Marriott likely ruins it. 😕

So far the combined program (through the transition) has worked pretty flawlessly, been implemented almost overnight and with no devaluation. Due credit to whoever is supporting the merge!
What hotels do you like staying at more? And what brand has better and or more convenient hotels to where you travel to regularly.
I'd sign up for both now and stay wherever it makes more sense once you get on the road.
Go for SPG platinum first. Easier to get to. 25 stays or 50 nights versus 75 with Marriott. Adjust your strategy as needed after that.
Also, you can use your personal card for hotels at EY. Frowned upon, won't get you in trouble though. Source: 3+ years if doing it

Spg platinum is easier to obtain and the points are easier to accrue than Marriott (unless you are staying at the hotels that earn 10 points per dollar spent). Earn on spg -> spend at Marriott

SPG is linked to Marriott. You can transfer SPG to Marriott if you ever need to. Link uber to SPG account as well.
Once you get status in either program when you link accounts it'll automatically match status.
SPG, unless you can stay at the Ritz
Sometimes I earn more SPG equivalent staying at a Marriott... but I suggest earning SPG plat challenge first.
