Prob interaction and motion design. Not sure what company you work for but these things are highly valued at mine.
I don’t think it matters what you have a degree in, you can still improve your skills in any area. Also (maybe just my opinion) it’s not like getting a degree means you’re good at a thing, it’s just the bare minimum identifier that you are interested in a subject
I agree that one can always improve on any skills, but he keeps speaking like I’m from a pure UX background and just don’t have these skills
Is this manager also a Designer?
-certainly stay committed to growing all your skills & take the feedback at face value. As designers ultimately we are meant to solve problems & different tools help us do this.
-sometimes creative directors struggle with who they are if they’re not the wunderkind who personally makes the world beautiful, and you just have play “sorcerers apprentice”
make them fit. are you an illustrator? do you want to be a graphic designer? UX is not that, as I am sure you know with your certificate. What bootcamp is it, just curious, for I did Springboard.
I have a similar background and was an animator but worked in web design and graphic design which transitioned into UX, plus my degree is in Digital Arts but I can call it whatever I want. People probably won't like me saying this. it was an independent major though... anyways, I went back to school, too, but even if I hadn't my title would've evolve into ux. I did start over a decade ago, though.
what kind of animation do you do? what tools? what transferable skills? you should call yourself a motion graphic designer. I do that.
there's micro interactions that happen with ux but that is ui, too. practice and improve on your storytelling skills. is your friend talking about case studies? presentations? even an animation is usually a story. practice and give yourself whatever title you want to/can be! make examples and update your portfolio.
