Okay so my degree is in animation and I have a certificate in UX design. My manager keeps telling me that visual design is not my wheelhouse, which at first I thought “well. fair enough. Animation isn’t the same as graphic design” but now he also told me that my storytelling design skills could use help. I’m really starting to wonder what skills from my degree were transferable to this job.

Is it normal for a Product Owner to lay out specs for how a feature should work?

I thought that was my job as the ux designer to figure out the best way to solve a need. But I’m getting handed projects where the PO, and sometimes the senior designer has laid out exactly what should happen (components used, flow, etc) to design a feature. It’s really frustrating because I don’t know if I’m supposed to be speaking up on what I think or just do the UI work I’m asked to.

Recently was interviewed for a Sr. role in Booking but unfortunately the team finds me better suited as a core individual contributor.

I am also in the advanced stages of some lead designer positions in other companies.

However I am really interested in joining the team at Booking, especially because of the design culture.
