I would record that and put it up. Amtrak staff is usually nice except the ones in the pantry. I was almost on it this morning
There is an Asian gentleman sitting across the aisle who looks to be in his 40s and he was asked for his ID as well. Such apparent racist behavior is such a disgrace for us as humans!
OMFG - a travesty! Racist America - let's burn it down because a someone asked someone for an ID. Get a fucking grip people.
:/ dude is prob from a red county
I'm black and have never experienced this in many years as a regular Amtrak rider, including many trips in Acela First Class. Nevertheless, it sadly doesn't surprise me in today's America. You definitely need to report this unacceptable behavior to Amtrak - if you have a recording, even better.
Never ever noticed this either in 2 years of amtrak commuting. I would take the video and send it to Amtrak's customer service which is stellar. They will have more options to make things right, include possibly disciplining the conductor.
If what the OP said really happened as he describes it, that's not an innocuous act of checking ID - it's blatant racial profiling. As I said, I've been riding the rails for years and don't think I've ever been asked for ID once. Maybe OP is just looking to stir the pot on FB, but I find it curious why certain people always rush to deny these types of events...🤔
I am an Indian woman living in this country for over 15 years. I have rarely ever been treated poorly because my color. But today's experience was just startling to me...that man was clearly targeting me because of my color. Also I am not overtly sensitive and give zero Efs about stirring anything.
Welcome to Philly! I'm here this week too
Need much more context here
Fake news
While Amtrak won't encourage such practices, am sure there r few jerks like the one OP encountered
Could it be paper ticket holders? I find they ask more often when you have a paper ticket vs App?
I've seen this before on that hat route, not just from white conductors, but black conductors too
I'd travel from Boston to NJ every week a few years ago on first class. I'd always board the train with a bunch of other guys(older and white, I am brown). The conductor, would always, every single time, say to me 'Ma'am this is first class, business class is the next coach'.. every single time.. just to me. And D3 is right, the black conductors would do it too..
Learn to live, you will find all kind of people. But most of them respect, so ignore one offs.
I travel Acela every week from NYC to D.C. for past couple of years and truthfully if I saw this happening I would ask the conductor what's the criteria for picking me . You have to stand for yourself, I have done this and been successful in most cases
I've never seen it before and I take Amtrak daily to client.
Could it be that the conductor already checked the folks he skipped? You can tell if they put one of those ticket things on top of the seat.
Speaking from experience as a weekly rider in the same route for last 12 months
