One of the most important things I've learned from life after service is that the friends I made while in are more dependable than civilian friends. I can call one of my friends I knew from my service, and they will do whatever they can. Or just let me vent when I need it. I hope this doesn't sound mean, but my civilian friends don't have that mindset. My friends who are still in service know I would drop anything to be there if they needed it. Same with those who are out.

I agree

I retire in March and was wondering about things such as what you’re talking about. I have anxiety about the culture shock of it all. How do you cope?

Surround yourself with the right friends and coworkers in the right job. Then there are Veterans Athletic Groups such as Team Red, White and Blue. They do a full spectrum of social, athletic and wellness events. I joined in Colorado Springs right before I retired and have stayed with it overseas here in Germany.

Thanks for the insight! I was worried about the fact that I might not be able to expand my group. This is really helpful!

Same thoughts here. This could possibly mean two things: 1. You made a strong bond with your military friends 2. Your civilian friends are not your true friends. It's only either of the two.

This is so true! Most of my civilian friends tend to dismiss my experiences and struggles.

How does everyone bill for family law matters? Do you always bill hourly or is there some flat fee, monthly or quarterly fee structure that could work, even in contested matters? I have cases that the clients end up spending $20-$40,000 on a contested divorce and this is really out of their budget. I feel that if my firm could charge a flat fee of $10-$15,000, it would still be beneficial from a client predictability and volume standpoint and would generate more referrals.

Wife doesn’t like her job at her law firm (2YoE). She wants to have kids sooner rather than later and we had agreed that we would both be working parents. For my own reasons, I don’t want her to be a SAHM. I’m trying to think of ways to have our cake and eat it too. What if we opened up a daycare? Anyone have experience running a daycare? Any advice/ perspective would be greatly appreciated.

My wife is in sales at Mercedes and she has been averaging $200k a year and growing YoY. She loves her job, however she works long days and barely gets time off. We plan on having kids within the next year or two, and it’s highly u likely that she’ll be able to keep her current gig. We want to find a career that allows her to work remote or that at least gives her a better work life balance so that she can see her kids grow up. Should she get certifications to give her a shot at adtech?Too late?

I’m mid 30s F. Recently started seeing this guy, where he is “good enough”. Good conversations, decent time together, he has a good heart, but nothing about him shines. - not fit (I work out everyday and play sports), meh social skills (he doesn’t have best friends, just few he hangs out with), bit less energy than me.
There is a feeling in me that says “he’s going to be a comfortable life partner” and “he is just good enough, but if I break up I won’t find someone for a long time”
Do I stay?

How do I figure out spending with my SO? Initially I was paying for 90% of stuff (no actual bills, just going out). I talked to her and said we need to be more even. She was never proactive. She kind of got offended but we ended on a good note to split things. It went well for a couple weeks but now it's back to normal. She never takes out her card and only venmos me if I send her the request. She lets Venmos sit for weeks before paying them. I still let a lot of things slide.

Has anyone found dating having kids challenging?

I got an email last night from a 7th-grade parent because her son said I mentioned the words "male privilege" in class, and she is very concerned about how that is related to ELA (she said "reading"), and she is concerned about this being taught in public schools. To be clear, I didn't do a lesson on this subject but we did discuss rights versus privileges. I've had multiple parents contact the school/get upset with me because of things like his. It's exhausting... Thoughts?

Hi
Are there any couple pg/studio aprtment in pune wanna shift with my wife for some 3-4months.
Please help me with some suggestions..

When, or if you set time aside to take care of yourself or do something for yourself, what do you do? I'm realizing I don't really have any "healthy" ways of relaxing outside of work, so drop whatever you got. It's starting to affect my personal life and I'm worried I won't be able to have healthy relationships unless I can take care of myself first.
