You had a medical reason, and that comment and assumption are inappropriate, full stop. It should be reported to HR.
I’d be annoyed and would’ve politely shut them down. If you’re not in a state where you want to share your camera then you shouldn’t be forced to.
Pro
Inappropriate on Ops behalf, but also should have been fine for you to say “I had dental work done this morning so I’ll be off camera today, hi everyone!”
Never tell someone to turn their camera on or off. Let people do what they feel comfortable doing. These are weird times, the last thing we need at weird made-up rules.
That being said, my guess is the person (who you know better than I) was not trying to be malicious or put you on the spot, but trying to be personable or funny.

Yikes. Sorry to hear that. Your head of ops is not professional.
Honestly, there is another side to this. Working remote is hard. It puts distance between us making collaboration even harder. It’s important to be able to connect. Not putting your camera on saenda messages to everyone on the call that could be seen differently. Now, i’m not saying that if you had medical reasons not to put your camera on but maybe let someone know your not avail by camera but can be by phone. I am just saying there is a different perspective.
they should just say we don’t care if you’re uncomfortable, then. that would be more honest.
