P2, but the kids want to know that happened
Knew of a partner from a few years ago who was fired for years of fraudulent expenses. Not talking about the occasional dinner, talking about family trips to Disney.
One partner shouted (lost temper) at client. Was anyway not pulling weight and sitting on other managers without adding any value. No innovation, just sitting on a fat account. And then lost it at that accountโs main sponsor. Was asked to leave.
Another one was a weird case where partner basically went awol for a year. No client emails. No engagement with team. No idea what was happening. Had to be looked into and eventually asked to leave.
Another one was a external hire at P level and was a complete cultural mis fit. Was creating divide in company and at Sr leadership

Deloitte fired 20 partners in UK over harassment
^ I knew him as well, believe he is at another big 4 now, go figure
Wow... Disappointing...
Partners can and do get laid off and fired Analysts/Associates have trouble believing it.
Itโs a business decision as always. If a partner isnโt pulling their weight and/or creates undue amounts of risk, theyโll be exited.
Miss your numbers for 2 years as an experienced Partner or MD and you are going to be gone. Miss the first three, same thing.
Harrassment or retaliation will get you fired as well. Very different than even 2 years ago let alone 5.
Most times it will be called retirement, and not obvious to staff below Principal or SM.
Hmm, I had a Partner retire so suddenly that direct reports didnโt even know until they got the abrupt auto-response, โI have retired.โ Now Iโm wondering if there was more! ๐
Based on P1โs response: 1) donโt be a d*ck to clients; 2) show up to work; 3) donโt be a d*ck to everyone else in the company.
To the original question of how โโhardโ it is to get fired, Iโm feeling pretty good should I ever get there...
Yass please
My practice partner was fired. Some performance and negative rev growth related.

Weโre trying to hire โname brandsโ whether itโs MBB, Ivies, etc. in TAS even if some parts of the personalities are questionable. This one lateral M partner came into an engagement and preached to all the clients about the big picture strategy and tried to completely change the company strategy during a merger (thatโs not how we do it in TAS). Clients refused to work with him. He also chain smoked with the staff. Was not fired but taken off engagement.
Iโve seen many big4 MDโs fired for missing #โs.
Gotta pull your weight at every level
How long does it take to get rid of MDs that miss their numbers? 2 years? 3?
If fired, do they retain any equity? Or does the partnership buy out their shares?
Usually a partner has to have their shares bought out by the firm, since technically they put up their own capital for those shares
Sexual harassment. Not always, but sometimes.
