Having great first meetings that lead to commercial opportunities. Best way to build this is to observe ppl who are good at it now. Look for opportunities to target execs for meetings at your current client and see if you can join the P or D. Talk to your relationship partner about it and see if they can accommodate. This is 100% how I started (and, because I am still learning, I keep looking for opportunities to learn from my partners). Start early....it is a learned skill that is rep-dependent.
Some of the best advice I have ever seen here
Go through a spy training, was reading on how to identify a spy(don’t ask) recently and they would make AMAZING partnets 😂 here it goes: “1. A developed ability to actively listen. Especially in a drunk company, sometimes you could clearly see that even in the booze haze they recall what other people were saying more that half an hour ago. 2. Propensity to come with risky jokes and suggestions in a pronounced “wink-wink, nudge-nudge, say no more” way, delivered on a one-to-one basis in a very confident, easy-going manner. 3. Very short decision time—usually the mark of high-level executives—even among junior operatives. 4. Jokes and self-irony as an emergency exit in awkward, embarrassing situations. 5. Apparent inner discipline and formidable ability to prioritize. They never chilled out in situations where partying, hoarsing around, boozing and generally having fun was not part of the setting. 6. They seemed to never eat lunch alone and never having a coffee without exchanging words with someone around. 7. Seemingly very broad span of interests. They never showed disinterest in whatever subject their conversation partner wanted to discuss. When drawing blank, they either steered it to a related matter, or quickly turned it all around toward the other guy himself and his opinions.”
Developing trust with clients, peers and our people. This requires integrity, which to me is one of the most important qualities of any human and certainly a leader, as well as teamwork; this is definitely a team sport.
