I boomeranged back to PA after industry bc I wanted more technical experience in international tax planning so that I could get a better industry job later. My plan was to stay in PA for about 5 years and then go back out to industry. I ended up staying longer than that bc I was learning a lot and had good experiences. Now, I am back in industry doing the kind of job I wanted to do all along, so my plan worked out!
What’s your current role?
I came back to public accounting. I realized I climbed too high too fast at my previous company and need a manager title to get the jobs I’m qualified for.
I have no interest in making partner but am interested in some of the projects that I work on.
Just boomeranged back. Yes my goal is partner, but if that doesn’t happen or the journey becomes too demanding to keep it
up I would try to find a better industry job. The industry jobs a lot of seniors get are super repetitive. I’m so bored of the month-end cycle and hate being chained to my desk from 8:30-6
Thanks SA1! Hopefully, you’ll find something good for yourself too. Good luck!
Good question! Im also interested to hear why people left originally and what changed for them to return.
Partner. Wouldn’t have come back for anything less
I left as a senior and boomeranged back after 1 year in private with the intention of staying until senior manager. I am at a weird spot because the only job I would leave for now is not something that translates well from a 10+ year career in public.
I wouldn't leave what I'm doing for internal audit.
I enjoy what I do. I highly doubt I would get the same work satisfaction from IA.
