I feel your pain. I'm also a CW background, and (in theory) we're paid to communicate clearly and effectively (if also creatively). Yet in corporate, clear communication is the exception.
Unfortunately, like SVP said, this is definitely not the last time this is gonna happen!
I was forced into a job I wasn’t interested in, and it won me a bunch of shortlists and awards… so just be happy someone trusts you to do it and you can pay your bills right now.

I just tell them that. "It doesn't sound like I have a choice, so don't ask me if it's a demand."
It sounds like you are one step away from a reply of “why don’t you do it.”
Ha. Gotcha
I like when people do this when it comes to weekend or night work. They refuse to “ask” you to do it or “tell” you to do it, but phrase things just quite vague enough that you’re expected to do it without them being the bad guy. Be direct people!
They'll just tell you that the meeting is Monday morning. You know, the meeting scheduled without the knowledge (much less approval) of the team.
I do this…but typically there is a lot of sarcasm tonality to it
Y’know…why not crack a joke or two before you give something absolutiely horrible to someone to do
Do you have an example of what you’re being “asked” to do?
Taking a performance issue with a coworker to their boss instead of addressing it with them first.
“Do you want to work the weekend?” (Not to a freelancer) 😭
