Best to have a discussion with the plan admin for each employer to confirm eligibility rules for spouses. I have seen some plans refuse to cover spouses for example.
I think someone else mentioned it, but I’ll reiterate it here: ask about possible Spousal Surcharges. Some plans require a surcharge be paid if the spouse is employed and offered benefits through their employer but choose to be on the other plan.
Lastly, ask about wellness incentives. If one or both plans offer premium reductions or HSA contributions via participating in their wellness program, those are good to explore and find the best fit for you and your family.
This is a great response. ^

Yah you can be on both and use them separately, but that can be expensive and may not be worth it. I would compare the Employee+Spouse plan for both and pick one that works best
I agree with comparing both plans for cost saving reasons and choose the best one. However, if you anticipate additional medical needs, this is where secondary insurance come into play. Be sure to review ALL of the additional benefits under each plan, including in and out of network coverage, short and long-term disability, pre approval, etc.
Make sure you take hers so she’s on the hook for the payments. Side note - Do you have a strong prenup?

There’ll likely be a cost.
Plus, you need to check with the employers—some don’t allow it, some do but charge an extra fee (on top of the premium), but most of all, it depends on whose birthday is first—that’s the main coverage. The other will be the supplemental. And that may or may not be great.
