Send a note to the team that worked on the project. Recognition is good. Positivity is good. Public bragging is a bit tone deaf.
Good lord. The US needs to get their head out of their asses and stop worrying about offending other people. Your feelings are your responsibility. If you get offended by someone else celebrating an achievement, you're the one who needs to get their life together.
Send notes to the teams and the people that did the work. No need to post to the world
I’ve been let go and I say post, especially if someone on the team either got let go at the agency they got the shortlist with (yea that’s shitty) or moved to a different agency and you know they got let go there.
Little bit of PR and exposure from different sources can’t hurt those that need it.
It’s called marketing. In a time when you could lose your job at any moment, pretty good thing for a marketer to do.
It’s not about offending people. It’s about the fact that a shortlist is a worthless commodity that are a dime a dozen. It’s like bragging that you got a stimulus check. Congratulations.
LB2, that’s fair. My question was a general query and not applicable to me as I’ve already congratulated those who deserved it personally. For some, it’s something.
A shortlist is nothing to brag about. When they announce the awards then do it. It’s only 3 weeks away.
a shortlist is something when it’s your first shortlist, and a shortlist is also more than most people have
A lot of pretentious, self righteous people on this thread. If you think you are so much better than a shortlist than congrats you sound like an ass. If you're somehow upset that people who've spent months, and in some cases years working their ass off and are happy to finally be recognized are being insensitive to you by posting about it than you sound like you've got some serious personal issues to deal with. Promoting yourself in a time when you could be looking for a new job at any moment shouldn't be something anyone in here finds insensitive. C'mon now.
It's amazing how insecurity doesn't see it's own entitlement.
You’ve got to take the opportunities while you can in this this industry. It’s hard to make work let alone get short listed. And If a shortlist is a window to expose your work to your peers then why not post it. Sure, most of those shortlists won’t convert, so celebrating 10 shortlists now sounds is better than posting about 1 bronze in 3 weeks time.
Post it internally, not externally. But not if you’ve had layoffs.
It’s a shortlist for Pete’s sake. Not worth posting.
Go for it.
Thoughts and prayers
I agree that people can be a bit over sensitive and that we should celebrate each other and stay positive in times like these. Why don’t we build a community/ public forum where we can celebrate and share each others work right now in lieu of Cannes and award shows. We can add an engagement/ public polling feature. I didn’t see the One club messaging but it can go both ways- tone is everything.
This just shows how in a bubble some ad people live. Is totally off and it makes me feel bad. Everyone saying, “A good news in the middle of a bad moment in the history...” 🙄
In general, why cant we just be happy for people who are feeling happy?
I think people could use the acknowledgement and encouragement. But on the other hand award shows risk being seen as irrelevant or worse self serving.
🙄 You just posted it. Congrats btw.
I mean naturally of course you want to be able to express your achievements to your network. But I’ve noticed every single one of them starts out the post with something like “it’s hard to be excited about something during these times, but blah blah blah”
But I’m sure many people who won these might still be facing losing their jobs, so it probably is worth it to have people notice your achievements in case you need to start looking for a job in a couple weeks, or a couple days
It sounds like every covid response ad from brands. Advertising people can’t help it
Read the room and let that inform your decision
It’s not an accomplishment. Rookie move.
