PwC thinking of taking an offer with pwc , i got a slide deck from recruiter showing we get 15-22 pto days per year; im assuming to get more than 15 you need to be employed for a while? and do they roll over if you don't use them?

also do we have sabbatical options for reduced pay? lol

kpmg has both carryover and sabbaticals so would only be accepting if pwc has both

15 days for the first 2 years and then 22 days. That's vacation only; additionally there are holiday days. I believe it's 12 days or so. No rollover. Not sure what you mean by sabbatical. There is a promotion sabbatical for new senior managers and directors of 4 weeks with full pay. There are also opportunities for reduced schedule with proportionate reduction in pay.

like

This is not accurate. It depends on what level you are being hired in at.

15 for the first two years under M level, I think. I joined as SM and immediately accrued at 22 days. Have had no issue taking a full 4 weeks (inclusive of the holiday week shutdown) plus a few days here and the for golf.

Frankly a pretty good policy in my eyes, and I try to afford the same flexibility to my staff on my projects as I would want to attend things and not have to take PTO.

Been at PwC for 2 months and it’s absolutely hell. I’d say choose any other big4 but avoid this place ! PTO and sick days are all fine but the people I’ve been forced to work with are the worst I’ve seen in my career

likefunny

What group M2?

I think all this PTO talk is just plain silly. We are in one of the most flexible industries out there and generally speaking, have a ton of flexibility relative to many other career paths.

In all the firms, you have a minimum, basic amount of charge hours (i.e.client work) that you must perform. That is all that matters- full stop. Outside that, you can generally call your time out of the office whatever you want.

like

Not always. I started at a new firm in April. I already had a vacation planned for June. I didn’t have enough accrued PTO and the firm made me take unpaid days off.

It’s 15 days PTO for first two years if you’re below manager. After two years or if you make manager you get 22. If you come in as manager you get 22. Vacation rolls over but is capped at 22 days (ie if you have 22 days accrued you won’t be able to accrue anymore).

like

Come to EY, our PTO is “flexible”

Settle for nothing less than 25 days PTO 13 firm recognized holidays, and 2 weeks long breaks. Stay strong my friend!

… KPMG has more than PwC? I find that hard to believe?

like

Yes but pwc allows you to carryover all 22 days and stops accruing at the max. Think KPMG only allows you to carryover 50% of your max 20 days so 10.

I would definitely ask about the PTO policy early in each interview. I’m kidding! That is a good way to not get an offer. The PTO policies of the various firms are remarkably similar. And I agree with a previous comment about the unlimited policy being a benefit to the firms. In the past, they would often end up paying departing employees for several weeks of unused vacation.

like

Do people actually use all of their PTOs in big 4?

I always use mine and I’m a SM. As long as you work with your teams, it should be fine.

like

PwC also has unlimited sick time for self and family.

More than 4 consecutive and you just have to go on ST disability

like

PwC does not have PTO.

We have vacation plus sick days.

Someone's feeling extra pedantic today....

funny

There is also unlimited free sick time. So that that however you wish.

Indeed, and there will still be the same pile of work building up for you when you return.

funnysmart

It both carryover. After 176 vacation hours you start to lose them, but you shouldn’t get there.

You don’t lose them at year end…. Sabbatical must be used by certain date/promotion.

PTO is fiction

They also have firm shutdown for Christmas and most 4th of July weeks

Interview tomorrow for a tax associate opening at RSM. Been working in a mid-size city (different firm) that is about 70 minutes from this new home office in a larger metro. How flexible is WFH or dual model going forward post Covid? Am interested in this position and going to tax, but not be able to relocate for family reasons. Don’t want to drive 700 miles per week M-F. What will dual model be like going forward? 1-2 times week, 4-5 month? Seems like tax was more flexible than audit pre-Covid
