I have this problem too. For me, it helped to be more intentional about hanging out with friends and family of even myself. I began to romanticize my life.
Try drinking protein shakes. Worked like a charm for me. You might be craving sugar or have low sugar levels, protein shakes will give you what you need with out the bd sugars.
I'm assuming the first medication you're referencing is Adderall (or similar). They're different medications that have different biological processes. Adderall is an amphetamine (literally prescription meth), hence the obvious energy aspect. Wellbutrin is an SSRI (selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor). That's a question really between you and your provider. One of the prevailing thoughts with ADHD is that there's a lack of dopamine or issues with dopamine release management which impacts executive function. Both accomplish the goal of helping with that through very different biological functions.
Personal experience only (hopefully that's all you're looking for and not actual medical advice on Fishbowl) I prefer SSRIs/SNRIs over amphetamines. Even though they're prescription and regulated, you're still ingesting amphetamines on a regular basis. I also got significantly more anxious and agitated. SSRI/SNRI is a little more subtle and easier on your system. Flip side, you're not really supposed to consume alcohol on those and some people have issues with lethargy and libido. Then there's a follow up point that the lethargy data point could be subjective because of people transitioning from amphetamine meds. Regardless, you just have to see what works for you.
Wellbutrin is an NDRI (norepinephrine and dopamine reuptake inhibitor) so may be helpful if going off adderall.
SSRI - I was on Prozac for a few years an HATED some of the side effects - the sexual side effects are the worst (for me at least) and I had some trouble sleeping if I took it too late in the day.
I was on Zoloft about 15 years ago and don’t remember any negative side effects but can’t remember how I felt beyond that. Whenever I talk with friends who are new to all this, I tend to hear positive things about Zoloft.
Wellbutrin is helpful but doesn’t seem to do much for my energy.
I don't think Wellbutrin is going to make a difference in energy levels from what I've seen
I’ve been taking 30mg IR x2 daily for like 4 years and also lack energy like you described. Wellbutrin has some stimulating properties (I’m not an expert on this, so I can’t really say more than that, but I’ve taken Wellbutrin for over a decade on and off so I do have some level of familiarity) and can help some ppl with energy, but it never did for me.
This could be anything, wouldn’t hurt to make sure you are regularly getting enough rest. I recommend exploring with your provider the possibility that the medication is masking underlying/co-occurring conditions. Not sure if dependency is a possibility or not. These don’t seem like ADHD symptoms but things that commonly result from ADHD symptoms for various reasons.
