Thinking of switching from sales to a sales engineering role. Biggest difference is going to be higher base (plus bonus) with no commission or quota to carry. Curious as to what is a fair salary in todays climate. We’re a series C fintech company based in NYC. I’m being considered for the role because I’m one of the strongest presenters on the team. It will still be in individual contributor role with supposed path to leadership. Curious the range as well as equity to expect/ask for.

How much total comp are people making at 0-2 YOE in IB, PE, and tech (FAANG)? Feels like we are severely underpaid relative to them, with most new consultants making anywhere from 65-100k.

12 YOE, people transformation ( culture, not ERP/tech implementation) background.

Current total comp is about $140-150k, plus $20k unvested equity.

Is this a reasonable salary expectation for my next role:
$165-$180 total comp annually, something like:

$150k base, 25% bonus, + $30k equity, $25k cash sign on to replace what I’m walking away from in outstanding equity and expected bonus payout for 2021.

My firms bonus structure is based on “billed out” (what a partner actually bills to the client) dollars instead of actual hours billed. So you can work 2000 hours but the bonus is based on only 1850 hours, because 150 got cut over the year. Is this normal? It seems entirely unfair and makes it impossible to get a bonus.
