I'm serving notice period in TCS and my last day is in 2 weeks. I requested for pickup of laptop in the portal but I came to know that it will take time for pickup and I won't be available if they come late. So I decided to go to office and surrender the laptop as I'm in the location of office only. Is there a seperate request to be raised for surrender of laptop and how to cancel the existing request for pickup. Please guide.Tata Consultancy

A lot of companies do use location data in salary decisions as part of market data. This isn't abnormal but it's not ideal either.
I don't think there's anything you can do about it, but you might consider that TX doesn't have state taxes so it's not as much of a hit as it seems. If it still bothers you, then yeah, you may want to look at other roles, but don't be surprised if the comp isn't significantly diff from your newly adjusted comp. (It may be a bump, but not by much if you make a lateral move).
Sucks, but that's the going strategy right now.

Idk why everyone is freaking out about this. This is completely normal. If it wasn’t everyone would move to California and work for a year and then move somewhere else a lot less expensive and live it up.
What motivates a person to work or where to live is a personal choice. How much your employer pays you based on experience, budget, location etc. is a business choice. Most coworkers don’t know what their colleagues make regardless of level or location anyway. Also, for context, I moved from LA to Austin with no COLA and received a non-promotion year raise that same year.
It is pretty standard, you need to let your management team engage and support you..if they are with you, it can be mitigated.
You’ll be actually making more money so I think it’s fair. Most companies do that. Think about people in Texas that move to SF. Should they get the same pay too? You have to adjust because salary expectations in different areas are different. Companies in Austin just don’t pay as well as SF companies do. Once again, you’ll be making a lot more
All of FAANG does the same
You won’t be paying state taxes, so that’s nice
Exactly. You’re getting a big raise with that 15% cut

Presumably they paid you more to be in SF or because you were located in SF...
Seems kind of dumb to pay you the SF wage in TX given they could just replace you with a Texan that's just as qualified at the lower wage.
Bingo. Not sure this is even a topic

Companies pay based on market (which COL is a part of). The Austin market has lower pay.
There’s very few top-paying tech companies that pay top SF dollar regardless of location. If Google/FB decided to do it, then a lot of others would follow. But they don’t, so status quo remains. They also don’t want to do it because that may cause a flood of people to remote/MCOl and they may not want that.
Is it fair to pay less for the same work? Probably not. Is it market? Yes.
The alternative is to find a company that pays you a San Francisco salary in Austin which might be difficult.
It's normal. Take it or leave
Compensation is a function of multiple things one of which happens to be cost of living. If you are choosing to move to a lower COL city from one of the highest COL cities in the US then why wouldn’t your company lower your pay?
Yes, this is a normal for cost of living adjustment.
But if you’re in SF, they have the option to pull you in last minute to the HQ
