Should I rollover funds from previous employer’s 401k and consolidate into existing Vanguard IRA & Roth IRA accounts? At a minimum, it’s one less maintenance fee to pay... what are your thoughts?

are you sure there’s even a maintenance fee? many funds just have an expense ratio.

if there are truly separate maintenance fees, yes, roll it over. if you do not have to pay maintenance fees, and are only paying the expense ratio, it’s up to you. do you like how that money is performing compared to your other IRA accounts? if so, keep it. if not, roll it over.

thanks SC1!

Vanguard may also open you up to better investments. A lot of companies have crap options, but with Vanguard I’d assume you’d have a ton of options like stocks, their index funds, etc

like

Thanks PWC1 - the Vanguard rep told me I would have greater variety of self-directed options with rollover to Vanguard IRA accts ... I’m trying understand what the downsides would be too

Recently consolidated to vanguard. Like the consolidation. Easier to view and manage in one place.

like

I currently have a half-dozen accts across previous employer plans, so yes I’m trying to consolidate too!

Make sure you keep pre-tax dollars (converted from 401K to IRA) separate from any post tax contributions you make to the IRA. Best to create 2 separate IRAs- one for rollover and one for post tax contributions.

like

Look into a Roth IRA Conversion Ladder going 401k to T IRA and eventually to Roth IRA when you have no/low earned income

like

I was suggest to roll it over into a IRA not sure if traditional or Roth would be best for you since I do not understand your financial background but essentially a IRA will give you more flexibility in terms of choosing investments

like

Make sure when rolling it over you get a rollover incentive bonus from the firm you’re going to to. Google and see who’s advertising it, and then negotiate it with your brokerage of choice. I saw it advertised by Schwab and TD Ameritrade, and negotiated $1200 to roll over $700k to Fidelity (they matched TD Ameritrade)

Hello Fishes,

I have 2 offers in hand currently -
1. CGI - 25LPA +1L JB
2. Neev systems - 23LPA (5%VP)

Neev systems is ready to negotiate it with CGI. And both companies have their own benefits.

Neev's hike is good compared to CGI(almost double) & CGI have some additional perks like cab facility, Creche allowance, mobile, internet bills reimbursements and additional 5% shares.

Both might have similar WLB (12-9pm).

My DOJ is tomorrow, unable to decide between them. Pls help me!!

For any of you real estate investors, what tools or sources did you learn from when getting started. Can’t find a mentor currently so want to find some highly recommended books or videos. If focused on the tri-state area (NY, NJ, Long Island mainly) that would be even better. My hope is to buy and rent out a apartment while also owning a house and house hacking that by renting part of it out. Trying to understand all the steps, traps, and how to find if it’s a good investment.

My colleague is going on maternity leave for 4 months and I was asked to cover some of her projects which are step up in responsibility than what I’m currently operating at. Some peers have suggested I ask for a raise to accommodate this but I’m not sure I agree as I’m only covering her while she’s out? What are others thoughts about this?

$530k HHI, $250k cash on hand, $1.2M investments/retirement. Plan to buy $800-900k house as our first home, but thinking of the best approach given rates today. My thinking is that we (i) put $200k+ down and get a 5/1 ARM. (ii) put everything we save moving forward toward paying down the principal (after maximizing retirement accounts). Should be able to do $100k per year. (iii) If rates go down below 4.5ish % for 15 year fixed, refinance and stop aggressive payment. Thoughts on this approach?

I’m 25 and have found a duplex I’m considering purchasing as a rental property. Planning on renting both units and have the cash to make the down payment without an issue. My cash flow analysis has a payback period of 3 years for my down payment and a 13 year payback period for the whole investment. I think financially it makes sense. My question is, is it realistic for a 25 year old young professional to handle dealing with all the extra curricular’s that come with owning a rental property ?
