^so yeah, “aim higher” is the answer, my question was to gauge how much higher you need to be looking
Consulting pays very well at SM/D level. Especially a few years into those titles, industry pay at equivalent titles won’t be close in most cases from my experience (kind of makes sense thinking about whom we provide most value to). I know quite a few whom have left at these levels to pay cuts for the sake of more balance / less travel. To others advice, aim higher is certainly option if pay is prime factor. VP should be more equivalent or maybe higher depending on equity. Consider what life balance looks like at diff levels though if that is a factor. I’d also say some types of consulting probably don’t qualify for an easy VP jump
What industry roles are you looking at?
Aim higher.
I had the same challenge and I am working with an executive recruiter to find the right role. I also found that a lot of roles got filled internally.
What kind of salary are we talking? And how far off is it from what you are seeing in industry?
We haven’t. That’s one reason why we’re still in Consulting. Unless CxO, exec VP or equivalent, be prepared to take a pay cut in industry
I probably need to aim higher. Had been looking at Director/ Sr Director roles. And I sense I’m at least 30-35% above their target. Should prob be looking at VP roles
What's your current salary range? Which industries are you looking at?
Comparable salaries doesn’t equate to qualified. I would aim for both levels and see what bites you get. Remember the hours should be less too
