Hi all,
Do firms match offers from other Big 4s for campus hires? I’ve received a campus offer from both KPMG and EY. I’m more interested in the EY offer, but they are paying 3k less than KPMG.
Would it be a bad move to let them know about the other offer and try negotiating? I feel it wont make a difference in the long run, but at the same time I don’t want to leave any money on the table if possible.
Thanks!

Can you keep clerking longer and find a different job? The clerkship may be helpful in getting you a new position (depending on what court you’re in), plus it’s generally considered good experience. That billable to salary ratio is NOT market (unless there are built in regular bonuses with that - I know, I’m an attorney recruiter and practiced for 6 years before this) in pretty much any major city. And there are plenty of law-adjacent careers, as well as entirely different careers where no one will care if you have a JD. It’s all about what you want. But from just the details you gave, that firm doesn’t sound like it’s going to have a good culture, regardless of if you want to practice.
Biglaw firms don’t have that billable requirement (though reality often means they come in that high by end of year) and they get paid twice what you’re at. So no, it’s not better, but you’re compensated for it. Also, biglaw probably isn’t in the cards if you didn’t start there with your summer internships anyway. There are plenty of other firms with better balance and more interesting practice. PI isn’t for everyone and if you’re this new to it, it’s not too late to try something new.
Omg. That’s insane. Every law firm has a different lifestyle. If you want something with less billables and more money, you can find it. Trust. Not every place will run you to the ground for nothing.
I agree with you. Do you know what you want to do instead?
