I left a job in public that I loved 14 years ago, because I worked 24/7 and knew I wanted a family. Now I'm 13 years into a marriage with a man I love, 4 children, and I'm moving to manager in the same industry job I moved to 14 years ago. I only do 40 hours a week. It was the best decision for me. Many times I still miss the pace of public, but giving up motherhood wasn't an option for me.
I’d keep in mind the reasons you were looking for a new role in the first place. For me, I enjoyed the work but hated the culture and hours in public. Even though I’ve also worked in some difficult cultures and with difficult people in industry, it was always better than public accounting! Also, I think the burnout and near- alcoholism kept me from realizing exactly how bad it was until I’d been out for a few months.
At the endof the day you have to do what is best for you. I used to sometimes feel weird or bad about leaving but now I do what is best for me and I don't let myself feel ad. Sometimes making a jump is the best thing that you can do.
