A visual reminder to always close the lid before you flush
https://www.ctvnews.ca/health/flushing-the-toilet-lidless-could-make-you-sick-researchers-find-1.6190187
Lid is for looks, a seat, or to prevent splashes and droplets from spreading after you flush (or closed before you flush).
But for women, it’s putting the toilet seat down so they don’t fall in if they didn’t check the seat ahead of time.
If the goal is to minimize the number of times that anyone has to touch the seat then only move it to where you need it to be then leave it there.
If the goal is for women to never have to touch the seat, then always put it down.
Only close the lid if you’re a psycho who worries that flushing sends poop particles across a 2 square mile perimeter.
No need to be mean. Just say that you don’t care about swallowing poop particles on your toothbrush.
JFC...close the lid 100% of the time, even with no women around, to keep an aerosol of your literal sh*t from coming up into the room
Toilet seat down for the vast majority of Americans means just the seat- that’s it - nobody really puts the lid down on a normal everyday occurrence unless maybe your germaphobic or live with a germaphobic or the other reason is you have a small child and want to prevent them from touching the toilet water.
Just close both and choose a different hill to die on
Yep, that is why I permanently removed all the toilet lids in my house. Only makes sense since they serve no purpose.
Your toothbrush has fecal matter now
Seat down. Germs enter the air. Leave it down.
The stereotype is women complaining about the seat being left up. But as a guy who travels out of the house a fair amount (as I'm sure many of us do), I've noticed that when I come home and my wife has had the seat down for days at a time, there's a lot of blowback on the bottom of it that nobody saw. It's nasty and needs to be cleaned. So really men and women need each other when it comes to toilet seats. It's a symbiotic thing.
Blowback! 🤣🤣
There’s a wrinkle I haven’t seen discussed yet: public toilets that men & women share. I hear a demand sometimes that toilet seats always be placed down, but that doesn’t recognize the problem of some men peeing without lifting the seat.
Seat and Lid down is the most equitable option short of forcing women to look at the toilet before sitting on it. If there’s no lid and it’s a public toilet, sanitary concerns suggest leaving the seat up as a default setting.
Dude put it all down, look up the 💩 particles when you flush … consider yourself learned
Why lid : (apologies for ruining many of your futures and past with this one) https://www.reddit.com/r/Damnthatsinteresting/comments/zglx2a/new_laser_experiment_reveals_how_high_poop/
My advice is to not dig your heels in on something so asinine. Just put the lid and seat down and think about what you’d want in return for your martyrdom on this topic.
Seat down always. Lid down for special circumstances i.e., children and pets
I lower both. If I have to raise something, everyone does! It’s fair and causes no arguments here
The ring stays down. We just make sure to wipe it after every use. The toilet lid remains closed if toilet is not being used. It theoretically should not stay open if the toilet is not in use: 1) better hygiene 2) better aesthetics
What do you wipe it with? Is it hygienic enough to just wipe pee off with toilet paper?
In my house, lid up, seat ring down todos los días. Unless my son or I are taking a piss.
