Life is a marathon not a sprint. They probably chose based on long term gains and not short term loss.
No they won't get a pay cut. As associates, you are managing the analyst, reviewing and explaining the models to VPs and MDs. I would say the responsibilities shifted but you are still managing folks.
Depends on what you wanna do. If you want more money, it's worth the cost (late hours). If you value wlb, stay away from IB

Most likely they are not leaving for a pay cut unless it’s a no name boutique

Assoc IB making lots more than M at B4
As a first year IB associate I’d expect their comp to be $300 - $350 all in (lesser known boutiques / jobs in smaller cities will pay less)
If you care about minor title differences across industries then IB is actually perfect for you. You can go straight from Associate to ✨Vice President✨ lol. In terms of salary, a typical mid-high performing Associate can clear $250K TC. Going off a whim and assuming you are a pre-MBA manager, this would likely not be a pay cut for your peers, maybe even at the post-MBA level too :).
IB is offering $200k guaranteed bonus right now. The market is hot. More $$.
Are they moving to IB from consulting via an MBA?
I like the overall optimism. Thanks for the feedback.
They def didn’t take a pay cut
