Hi there, I’ve been told that Deloitte (London, UK) is going to make me an offer but haven’t heard back and it’s been over two weeks. The recruiter mentioned it would be around the “m2 grade”. Any idea what this pay range is? … I have 3 YOE working in NHS finance and have applied for a position in Risk Advisory, public sector. Curious what life at Deloitte is like? Does a work life balance exist?

Yeah I knew what salary range I was getting going from analyst all the way up to senior manager.
I know what I was tabbed to make at partner/principal versus director and the economics of the buy in.
Most of this is all ratings and salary bands, there isn’t much mystery.
Chief
Sure, but you know the ballpark within a limited range, it’s more than you are making at the time, and better than your alternatives.
Comp versus responsibility was never a reason any logical person wouldn’t take a promotion at any level before partnership.
Get what you're saying OP. The kool aid that most people here is drinking must be tasty.
So because you don’t count yourself, your real question is “How dumb are you all?” Sounds like a good way to invite people to your discussion.
Glad you agree you are calling us all dumb.

My workload hasn’t increased directly after a promotion. Normally I’m working for the job I want before I get the promotion to that level.
Been at the same firm 10 years
How do you not know compensation? Even if the firm is not transparent (we are) seems like you could ask any of your thousands of colleagues?
Wow - very odd HR practice here you know base at every level and bonus ranges based on performance very transparent
Chief
I'm actually really confused by this question. Why wouldn't you have visibility into compensation at the next level?
Chief
Externally: yes, just like consulting. Internally: you don't typically have to sign any "acceptance" - in most cases you get the promotion period, except for in edge cases like if you're applied to transfer to a different part of the company.
How can you not know the next level’s comp? Are you saying it’s lower than it should have been cause of covid? It’s a pandemic. Hundred year storm. Hold on or get thrown overboard. Gonna be a rough 12 months.
Ain’t gonna change next year either
If you don’t like the deal after getting promoted you can just leave. It’s not like anyone is making you stay or even that you have to put in a certain amount of tenure for it to not look bad on your resume. Odd you’d so strongly prefer changing jobs before getting promoted rather than after. Even odder you’d boast about that being some great insight and call everyone else not doing so (e.g., everyone) dumb.
I get doing it for salary bumps but that doesn’t even seem to be your issue.
That when you strike a deal you should be aware of the level of responsibilities vs compensation? That’s too high a bar?
If you think your workload is too much, it’s all on you to change that. Delegate, delegate!
Get off the high horse op..
you calling everyone in consulting dumb and then also saying you will knowingly act dumb next year?!
Dont believe you actually put this in words and think you are smart 🥱
Yeah. That’s false. You wouldn’t have so many disappointed people after promotion cycles each year...
We have standard pay and bonus ranges by role in every country this would never be an issue

OP, To get promoted you are usually working at that upper level. You get the title and the raise. This is literally how the whole world works.
Chief
Yes OP, as almost every other person on this thread has commented, we generally know what the raise will be
Chief
OP, take a look at all the replies above. I think we have enough data at this point to determine that you are the issue, not consulting.
It's on you if you're so clueless you can't figure out compensation at the next level.
Ahhh gotcha. I was really fishing as to whether anyone could come up with a plausible explanation as to why everyone behaves this way. No one can, which is more telling.
The thing is that they're not published. You have to consult a PPD to get your exact salary range, if they choose to give it to you.
