Sometimes I worry all the networking and putting myself out there makes my anxiety worse. How do you balance ambition with self-care?

I think it will help you a lot if your networking is targeted and strategic. If you have a clear goal in mind it will help keep you focused. If you are networking just to network, I can see that contributing to anxiety. It’s like decision anxiety at a restaurant, too many perceived options will be a detriment.

having a self-care routine in place helps me (daily meditation, scheduled meal & snack times, medication regimen, therapy, exercise, and scheduling time pre & post networking to destress/recharge). I also remind myself that most people are a little nervous putting themselves out there.

Edit: you can break the ice by acknowledging that you’re nervous out loud. I recently did this at my first huge in-person conference since the pandemic. Others spoke up and stated that they were also nervous

i had my canadian pr last year but didn’t do the landing since covid hit. the deadline passed of course and the immigration office reached out to check if i’m still interested and if so i should re-do a medical. assuming my medical goes through and my pr is processed and accepted again, does anyone know if landing is still a thing? my original plan was to do a landing and move after 2 years. is this still possible or does canada basically want you to move in a year or so after pr is granted?

Anyone looking at traveling to Costa Rica? They have a list of states from which they will admit tourists while also requiring a negative covid test, health history, etc. As someone not on the approved list, I am bitter and curious why the population is grouped at a state level when there are massively different rates of infection within each state (not to mention personal responsibility) and you are already required to present a negative test. Any idea how often those lists get updated?

Interesting. Let’s see if the uptick In cases continues to drive an uptick in hospitalizations and then in fatalities. Depends on how many of the cases are incidental or in very young people not prone to severe cases. But either way, look at the hospital capacity utilization figures! This is the untold story. Were we bending the curve to avoid unnecessary deaths due to overcrowded hospitals, or were we bending the curve to buy time for treatments and vaccine, or just to slow fatalities?
