I stayed until SM and was able to find a nice first position out by just applying (I.e. no connections or network help)

Chill OP. Congrats EY1
I left as Manager. There were a few opportunities before that that I was really interested in and runner up for but got passed up by someone with industry experience. Your love from PA to industry is usually through networking, former clients, etc. as opposed to regular applying. The first move is hard to make because of that, but once you get some industry experience, your opportunities really increase after that.
I was rejected at B4 due to lack of consulting experience
I don't think so. You just have to sell yourself better. Really focus on project management, leading teams, knowing the numbers and controlling budgets, motivating people etc. Manager really lets you work on and build these skills. That will be applicable to industry as will the technical skills you've built up that you utilize to train staff/seniors. Keep your head up and keep applying, you'll find the perfect job.
You need to sell yourself better. I had offers from Amazon and Facebook for accountant roles as a senior in audit. I networked and demonstrated technical skills they needed ie ASC606 and SQL/Data analytics.
Stay until SM - that's where the real bump is in terms of leaving for industry.
What roles are you leaving for as a SM in PA?
You must struggle at overcoming objections.
