Thought this was interesting. Across 160 teams of researchers, just about all failed to make good life outcome predictions on things like GPA, evictions, layoffs, and others. Data followed 4.5k families across 15 years, with 13k features (varied over time). Haven't looked at it directly yet, but will be turning the docs and data inside out... In the meantime, authors claim this as showing the limits of ML. Oh, and it's published in PNAS, so you know there's some big publication energy there.

Coach
A variation of this is when associates get too eager on leadership committees.

LOL. So spot on. I’m one of those not fun Seniors. I’ve been encouraged to organize Associate events, but I refuse bc I don’t want to hang around y’all if I don’t have to, either.

You could have just told me you didn’t want to go. Now you’ve hurt my feelings. Get back to billing. Thx.
So true. Would love to hear from senior partners if they see it for what it is.

I strongly suspect they aremt paying attn to it at all
Tbh though, I’ll take that over complete social crickets. At least there is the option.

Have a senior associate in my group who I think is not very good at lawyering but is always keen on organizing trainings and activities for the group. Also curious how partners view / value this type of associates.

Does it change anything if said associate is giving wrong instructions to juniors and making changes to drafts that get reverted by partners like 75% of the time? I mean I do like them as a person/friend but wouldn’t want to get staffed under them.
