This post is about building a referral network. I recently started my own practice with literally one client 6 weeks ago. I barely made any originations when I was an associate at my last firm. I’ve since then resigned and started my own law practice. And now, I’m receiving about 2-3 leads per week. And the amount of effort needed to do this is like a 3/10. It’s not even that hard.

That's great, but what's the success rate in turning your leads into clients?

If I converted 80%, I would max out my case load in less than 2 months. My cases usually have a life time of about 18-24 months and I can do around 7 at a time without hiring anyone. I’m proud of the ways things are going since I came from very very little referrals before and I can now practice law on my own terms without being someone else’s employee. And 7 cases would basically double my earnings.

Tell us more please.

A friend of mine works with TCS as an Analyst, his base location is Bengaluru but he is been working from his hometown in Lucknow since the first COVID lockdown. Now he is being asked by his team to work from Ahmedabad, where his direct supervisor (manager) is working from. In this case, according to TCS talent policies, what is the procedure and the benefits that he can avail, as part of project initiated relocation? Also, how long it takes to get base location changed through HR in TCS?

We have a big project going on and I am the only point person(initiate it, did lot of work, and knows the deets well), seems like my mgr wants to get a headcount. But I want to use this opportunity to get promoted, how can I get this across? Mgr is new(they fired my old mgr), mgr’s mgr is new too(re-org). So not sure if I should/can make a case, or how.

I’m considering a position doing RPA development and Low Code integration for for a consultancy. I’ve been primarily doing process work in my current role but I’m familiar with the technical aspects of this space. Is it too late to build skills in the RPA & Low Code areas? Is this still a space that is worth building competency in? Ultimately my goal is to get some experience doing solutioning type work, while I build more technical (programming) skills. I’d like to do product work in the end
