I just got a really great offer, only downside is the eligibility for maternity leave is after 12 months of employment. I recently accepted a position with a new org. One of the benefits I asked about with offer was the parental leave policy and was told (in writing by HR) 16 weeks paid after 1 year, which is as good as you can hope for in US. Now I’ve been sent the employee handbook to review/sign and it says only 12 weeks, which is less than the org I’m leaving. What might my recourses be to negotiate 16 weeks when the time comes? Also, should I be viewing this is a red flag?

I give massive kudos to all the parents out there juggling work and home life. But it’s starting to feel like I pulled the short stick by not having a kid.
