Thoughts on Orrick for patent litigation? How’s the culture, work, hours, and overall satisfaction?

Friends who work there seem generally happy. But patent lit hours are rough everywhere.

I’m in the parent lit group at Orrick since 2018. I think it’s excellent. Culture is great. Of course there is a high work load. But that’s big law. Generally, I also feel like Orrick is one of the best if not the best big law firm in terms of overall culture.

To previous commenter who said we are not “top tier”—😂😂. See you in court.

Orrick does patent litigation?

like

It’s a small but growing practice. They’re not top tier but far from the worst.

Overall it’s a good place to practice. Culture/satisfaction varies a bit from partner to partner, but most folks are relatively happy. Feel free to send me a DM for more info.

I’ve worked with them and against them. They seem chill. They seem to be doing things cheap, which can be a good thing if you care WLB.

What do you mean “doing things cheap”?

like

If you have an offer in this economy, take it. lol.

You’re welcome.

If they’re operating at a macro—basis, wouldn’t hiring decisions be projected into the longterm? I know we had our Lathaming and Orrick had their layoffs but those reputational hits also must be something they need to make sure don’t bring back scrutiny. Also interviewing with the patent lit group at Orrick, but I’m not an atty. But I’m also not “looking.”

I’m currently interviewing with a few top 10 firms and a couple top 100 firms for a mostly remote experienced associate/new senior role. Does anyone have any tips on virtual interviews and how to gauge the culture of the firm and if it really will be a good fit for you? I’m struggling to figure out that out because I used to gauge it on the feeling I got while in their office during interviews. Any suggestions would be helpful :)

Can anyone give me their honest opinion on working at Eli Lilly, the Indy site? I have a few coworkers that have worked there in the past but no one recently. I’m currently being recruited pretty seriously for a in-vivo technician position in the auto-immune team, but I already have a job lined up at Envigo as a small animal sx tech. Salaries would be comparable (Lilly would most likely be a little more with bonuses), but if the culture sucks, I’d hate to burn a bridge with Envigo.

Hi Fishes, Can anyone share about the work life balance, growth and culture at Tiger Analytics in Big data engineer role. Confused between Accenture and Tiger Analytics. Thanks in advance.

Recently, as you probably know, Dr. Seuss's estate chose to stop printing a few of his older books that had offensive racial stereotypes. There was huge backlash from white people, including teachers here, screaming "cancel culture!"
Now we have a white guy who murdered eight Asians in custody, unharmed; while the police officer who killed an African American man for allegedly trying to pass a bad check is about to go on trial.
Full disclosure: I'm white. But I'm still enraged by all this. You?

Name the most ridiculous micro-managing by partners that you experience.

I’ll go first: MP told me that on initial emails, I am always to start with “Hello [name],” but after the initial email, I am not to address her by name again in the same thread. Initial greeting can only be “Hello [name] ” because just first name is too brisk and a “Hi [name]” is too informal. Had a 5 minute, in depth conversation as to why she prefers it this way…

likefunny

it feels like every survey about working from home is (poorly) designed to answer the useless question "would you rather work from home or from the office." I submit that the set of people who prefers to have only one of those two options, always and forever, is the null set. which means it DOES NOT MATTER because the correct answer is always going to be "make both possible." you're welcome, HR departments everywhere.
