Thoughts on the term “Spicy” as it relates to neurodivergent children to help reduce the”diagnosis language.” 🧠🌶️ I have two kids that are and it is mixed (ages 11 and 13)

Never heard that one.

We use the phrase “busy brain” when talking about it sometimes with our 6 year old. He also knows his diagnosis, but I think our euphemism is more accessible for him.

I don't find it offensive either. It does make me feel a little weird though. Not that there's anything inherently wrong with the term, I'm just not used to this generation's obsession with affixing labels to every single thing. I'm getting old 😂😭

The term “Spicy” could, for some, imply that something requires more tolerance, especially from a culinary perspective. If something is spicy, it is the extreme of that construct, no spice, has spice, spicy.
Also commonly seen “Spicy Chicken Sandwich.”

I have also heard “spicy” used to replace sassy.

Maybe have them watch the movie Divergent to get a different perspective on the meaning of neurodivergent. That’s what I always think about honestly

like

I don't care for it, it connotes volatility.

Thank you for the feedback. 🙌😊

I personally don’t use it but I don’t find it offensive. I prefer ND or neurodivergent

On a different note, do you mind sharing your experience getting your kids diagnosed and what measures you or they are taking post diagnosis? I’m new to this topic and I believe one of my kid is on the spectrum.

I think we need to just call things what they are

I’ve seen people of colour dislike it due to associating non-white ethnicity/racial background with dysfunction/difference, so I’ve stopped using it.

My partner and I are moving out of our condo building in NYC at month end, and the building management (not our landlord) has communicated to us that, on top of the 1K non-refundable fee and 1K security deposit to move out (stated in lease), they are also issuing a $1,250 "sanitization fee" for the public areas (hallways/elevators), since we happen to be moving out during COVID19. We feel this is taking advantage of tenants during this time and may not be legal. Any advice helps!

Hi all, Currently holding an offer of 14 lpa from Neudesic and have my 2nd round of interview from Bitwise tomorrow. Before the first round at Bitwise HR mentioned that they can give 16 lpa fixed. Anyone here struggle with drinking enough water every day? Growing up, I drank a lot of soda and fruit juices but since 2020, I’ve been trying to be one of those people who always has a water bottle. They say you drink some when you first wake up but I never have a taste for it and then never remember to start drinking until about noon.

Googling ADHD today (I’m having a distracted day) and super frustrated because I’m realizing that I was likely misdiagnosed as depressed for years. I was taking SSRIs and dealing with awful side effects while I struggled for so long. I finally got an official diagnosis about 10 years ago but was never taught the symptoms or how to manage them. Found you tube channel ADDitutde magazine. Several really good presentations with recent developments Thought I’d share.

I just started meds yesterday and the change in my focus and attention to detail is mind blowing. My only concern is, just yesterday I had a tough feedback session with my manager around how I’m taking too long to complete my work, giving them anxiety around close deadlines. I’m new in the job (3 months in). Should I explain anything about my adhd to my manager or just wait for them to notice the change in me?

Anyone a manager? I’m recently diagnosed (26F) and I can’t help but beat myself up everytime I fall short of my to do list. Makes me feel like a huge disservice to my team. I’ve been trying vitamin D and working out, but it makes my “highs” and “low” SO extreme. The simplest things are so complex in my mind.

If anyone feels similar, how do you manage these feelings? I’m personally considering switching to an individual contributor role, but can’t help but feel like a disappointment if I do.

I have tried absolutely everything I can think of to limit distractions during the work day and none of it has worked. I work in sales as a coordinator and do a bunch of paperwork with customers online. I LOVE PEOPLE but dread going to work everyday (wfh 3x a week) because the environment is toxic.
