Any tips on how to start and prepare my MBA Application? I don’t plan on applying till 2022 as I want to attend in 2023. What are things I can do to prepare now in order to have a strong application? Background: I’m aiming for HSW, M7, and top 15. I’m currently a Staff at EY within Business Consulting. I graduated from a Top 25 Business Undergrad - majoring in Finance and minor in Advertising with a 3.71 GPA. I want to pivot towards PM or Corporate Strategy in Tech, at Toyota, or Nike. TIA!

ok reputation but i would not say top tier
But their international name would mean that outside of the mba community you would get killer recognition
Highest ratio of females across all mba programs
Heavy concentration in healthcare
Really interesting approach to teaching...definitely breaks down silos
I went to Yale, mostly agree with Slalom1. Definitely great name internationally, and amongst people that don't know b-school rankings by heart. Great people, good culture, great teachers, and despite the "not M7" label, I think opportunities were plentiful across industries.
@Booz: no, clearly not good enough for that. Especially for D, I think we have more people at M than D (jokes aside, it's probably true).
@C1: Traditionally SOM was considered a less pure profit-focused school ("for business and society"); you'll find many people with a non-profit background, and many that are interested in using their skills for other things than helping rich people make more money. That translates into a variety of classes (e.g., social entrepreneurship) and yes, good relationships with the non-profit sector (e.g., education, impact funds). If you look at the % of people graduating and going into a non-profit, it'll be slightly higher than at most other schools. Now of course that reputation also comes with the "hippie school" label, which is no longer true as a majority of the class still ends up in consulting/IB/PE or whatever... If you're interested in non-profit though, the name of Yale SOM still has a big recognition.
I was interested in non-profit which is a reason why I went there, and ended up interning in the sector (also the school will subsidize your internship if it's in non-profit, given the low level of pay). Would have stayed full-time if it was feasible.
I would go if I got accepted
B1 but did you get into MBD though?
But I only have a 620 gmat and I am a straight white male. No shot hahah
Hey B1 do you know anything about the placement into and relationship with non profit/education industry? I've read that it's very good with respect to those 2 specific industries, but can't tell why/how that's the case from the research I've done
Very great info Bain & Company. Did you think of joining a non profit after joining or did you know you wanted to go into consulting?
Yeah that’s actually great insight, thanks B1. There’s quite a bit of SOM’s (makes sense) here and I didn’t get a “hippie” vibe at all from them, but most of them are all about ethics and taking care of their consultants. Maybe that speaks to SOM or specifically the ones that come here. It’s technically top 10 now and no one - other than people who take mba prestige way to seriously - is going to discount an MBA from Yale.
