@partner1 have not burnt bridges and you are right on trade offs. Money wise it was not walking away from much. It was actually accelerating and getting it early vs at retirement ( if a few things fall in place - like me being able to to grow the business). Thanks for the wishes and I do have days where I have buyer’s remorse and a some other days on why did I not do it earlier :)
Why did you leave?
Hours are about the same - at least till now
@kpmg3 No, it’s running a business unit
Good for you. Takes courage to make a change
Thanks for doing this. Very cool
@kpmg6 - thank you. Agree that timing risk is there if I decide to come back. And the excel numbers on retirement sure did look attractive !
@pwc6, you seem to be in a great spot. I also loved the firm and partners, which made the decision difficult. And yes, biggest concern was rebuilding relationships and being seen as highly paid outsider coming to fix things :). The way I rationalized is that will help me get out of groupthink mode as I will learn from other execs. And first year will be like a new client project where I have to build relationships with exec team and prove my value. It’s early days but that attitude is helping.
Any difference in expected hours?
But did you apply somewhere or did you already knew someone from that company?
Education? What vertical did you exit to?
Less hours?
Often times it feels like all partners are internally fighting with each other for resources, sales etc due to remuneration structures primarily based on personal metrics.
This leads to junior staff feeling they aren't cared about unless they are in a partners' vertical. And unless you align yourself, it's difficult to get the required senior support for promotions etc.
What are your thoughts on the partnership model as a whole?
Do you think it limits collaboration and operating as one firm?
@SC2 hours till now have been almost the same
Why did you leave ?
CDO kinda role?
Do you think you can come back to Big 4 if you wanted to? Do you think you could lateral to another public? What’s your endgame?
What are your hours generally? Have you found that you can balance a family and ambitious career? I want to get to c-suite one day but be an involved dad
@ kpmg 4- I had to give up the retirement benefits, so they did factor into the decision. It made it harder on balance it made sense to me.
@ pwc5 - yes married and have children. I got admitted as a relatively young partner, so have a runway ahead of me - so I did not think it was a huge professional risk. But certainly a challenge that may or may not workout.
