Whenever I complete demographic surveys I get to check the box to indicate I have a masters degree.
In NYS you need 150 credits to get your cpa, so the masters covered that for me. Otherwise ive gotten no benefit from it, since it wasnt a masters in tax i didnt even get the 5k salary bump my peers did when we started (although we’re now matched after 8 years working).
I don’t have a masters (I had 150 because I changed my major) and there’s been no impact. CPA is the only thing that matters.
It probably could be a deciding factor at some point - two equally qualified people, one has masters one doesn’t - but it hasn’t been so far.

A masters degree in accounting is useful only to the extent it gets you to 150 credits. And to the extent that almost everyone gets a master's degree for this reason, it doesn't help set you apart from other CPA candidates.
Some firms will increase pay or accelerate promotions at the staff level for a Masters. Some areas of specialization (mostly in accounting or tax advisory at selective firms) require a Masters in Accounting or Taxation.
I am friends with an MD in the A&M transaction tax practice and they recruit JD’s (preferably with LLM’s but not exclusively) and/or CPA’s w Masters. They primarily (not exclusively) get their experienced hires from Big 4.
Unless your position requires it, it isn’t relevant. Most people I know who got them did it to get the 150 hours for the CPA. I don’t have one, I’ve had promotions that have been on track or early and no one has mentioned needing one.
My MSA didn’t directly benefit me however some of the courses I took in the graduate program helped build a foundation. For example the mergers and acquisitions course was helpful but the majority of courses weren’t.
It’s not. No one in the accounting field will be amazed by it, everyone knows it’s just a stepping stone to be a CPA candidate
