1. No one knows when a recession will hit, economic expansions don’t die of old age 2. Be aware that most don’t make partner the first time they go for it...so the question is are you willing to go at it for 2 years to make partner? Or would you rather not grind it out for another two years and take the double my comp role, now and exit? 3. Personal advice, you’re close to partnership might as well go for it to see if you do get it or not, otherwise you’ll always ask yourself what if I stayed, unless their are family considerations at which point the calculus is different 4. Whatever you decide it’ll be the right choice, with those two options you can’t go wrong, so congrats and recognize (with gratitude) your accomplishments that have led you to this point of two great career paths, well done
Ended up rejecting the offer. Going for more pie... 😂😂😂.
0. Deliver partner level numbers 1. Find a sponsor 2. Learn who are the handful of senior partners that vote on your case 3. Figure out how to develop a relationship with them so they can see first hand what your sponsor sees in you....developing these relationships is the part that requires time and in a lot of ways luck Highlighting the point that sponsorship is important however there are other considerations that require more focus
What’s the title of the new role ? If it’s a partner compatible role - take it , spend a year or two and come back to PWC as a lateral admit and make even more $ . I know it can be done - know at least a half dozen people who have taken variants of this approach successfully
Take the money
Rejected the offer this AM.
Mother fckn savage. Balls of steel this guy has. Congrats, hope you make partner
Lol there’s no recession looming
Sure, it happens. Companies every year lay off under performers. It might not be the reason Deloitte laid off some of their staff. I won’t pretend like I’m some expert, but I have seen a good amount of people talk about that being the reason.
I would wait it out. I’m sure the offer or something similar will be there in a years time in case you don’t make it. That being said - aside from the salary what is the career trajectory of this other offer? If it surpasses what partnership can offer you and it will be fulfilling in ways other than just salary then I would take it.
M1 it’s all about a system. Travel is very manageable, specially when your kids were born into it so it’s not traumatic. You also need to have your priorities straight. I have missed project kick offs to be in town for my kids school activities.
Forget the money. Which do you really want to do - for the next 5 years? Go there. (Fwiw- partnership at PwC won’t double your comp...)
D2 most Ps I have talked to at PwC are making over 600k by the second calendar year.
I want to be a partner but a firm offer that I assume is ~500k sounds pretty good to me. I’d take the offer
Just curious. How strong is your relationship with your sponsor? Did you ever consider seeking his/her counsel before you decided to stay or do you not have that type of relationship?
Thanks for following-up. I’m rooting for you!
Take the bigger salary so you can afford to change your mind later
Make partner first, it will significantly sweeten other offers down the road later
Take the $$$ and if it is not what you hoped jump back to pwc for more $$$
I would stay and try to become a Partner at the current firm! Good luck and let us know what happens!
Update on this. I ended up making partner in July and I can’t be happier about my decision and the future in front of me. For the people going through the same process I was when I authored this thread, stick around the process only makes you better.
Oh wow! Congratulations. Thank you for the update
He who cannot risk will not win.
Take the $$$ or you’ll regret not taking it.
OP- still happy with your decision to reject your offer? Did you tell your firm about it?
So far so good but the anxiety is killing me. The next 8 months will be mentally tough.
What industry / city was the company in? What level / role was the offer for? Curious as to how you can get 600k offer in industry.
How much was the offer!? $500k!?
That’s amaZing congrats. What line of work??? I’m in the wrong LOB then lol
