(very old title here) Execs - what experience is most valuable to prepare for CEO or founder role? I have an annual review coming up and can ask for pretty much anything, be it a new role, initiative, exposure, board involvement, etc. What should I ask for? Some context: I lead a core team at top-10 company in my industry and am ready to pass over the reigns if I choose. There are 5 teams total in company, and mine is second largest at ~15 people. Goal: CEO or Founder of company in my industry

My recommendation would be informed by the stage of company you are targeting.

A company that needs seed funding will require different skill sets than a company in sustainment.

And public companies have different needs than private.

Without knowing anything else about what you are doing I would suggest picking something very different to what you’ve done.

Mentorship/training/people-management is one of the areas that I’ve focused on the most throughout my career, and I can attribute much of my success to this and relationship-building, as it results in being given opportunities due to mutual trust.

But in that vein… some experiences I’m lacking: corporate financial/tax/liquidity management, capital raises, investor relations, IT transformations (not interested), corporate law, seat deciding overall business strategy, direct external communications strategy, lab/pilot-scale R&D, product design/manufacturing

I recently took Wharton's Executive Presence and Influence program. You might want to take a look at it. It is filled with lots of examples of what executives at the CEO level should be aspiring too. I attended the program because I work with clients at that level. I try to keep myself as updated to what is going on in the world as possible. It was an excellent course. I highly recommend it. Some of the information has been invaluable to my clients. Good luck.

Curious to hear thoughts and stories about growing within a firm when you’re in a niche area. I am in a specialty area which although unique will never be as large as many other practices. I enjoy what I do but I don’t see doing it for the rest of my career. How do you pivot into a “bigger” or different role? Would love to hear about your experiences.

What’s the best way of encouraging young team members to actually disconnect during their time away? I have some individuals that will not take actual vacations, they say, “I’ll have my laptop and phone”. My response is “please leave your laptop at home and turn off teams and outlook phone notifications. If there is an emergency and we have a question only you can answer, we can call or text. we’ve got this.”

And then they teams checking in 2 days later 🤦🏼‍♀️

Hi all. I’m a ux designer at a small company and need to recruit a few people for usability testing. Our target demographic is people over the age of 35 who’ve been in leaderships positions. If you’re interested I’ll send the link- the test will take about 15-30 minutes and pays 20$. No human interaction required.

Prepping for a CRO interview with the CEO of a smaller tech company (approx 70 employees) experiencing explosive growth. They want someone to run sales, alliances, & marketing, with heavy influence around product development so not really a traditional CRO role. Working on prep and curious if anyone has any ideas around questions I should be prepared to answer? Questions I should ask? Seems like an interesting role that should be a good fit with my background. Other thoughts?
