That’s a significant pay cut. You might work your ass off for a year or two and get a raise, just to get back to where you are now.
I also don’t know what “long term potential” means in our industry at the moment. Would be more inclined to stick with your current gig and look for another job that offers both more $$ and opportunity or actual work/life balance.
Stay where you are, nothing is guaranteed growth and you are making more now and said the hours are reasonable
Id only take a pay cut if I was going to have significantly more work/life balance
Yah, that’s what I did with mine. My old job was more competitive and fun but I was dying everyday. My job now is less competitive and boring but I def have a life now which was nice. I am bored to death & frustrated tho. But whenever I miss the crazy I just grab a freelance and I am happy again.
If Job 2 "may be fun" - it "may not be fun" too. Don't fall for the hype - non pharma folks aren't exactly living it up. Keep the extra money and extra PTO. And hang tight to your job.
Definitely stay put. 25k paycut AND less PTO? Not worth it IMO. Especially going to DTC might be a more unstable move right now.
Congrats on getting an offer! A few questions: so you were able to get the job offer increased $45k?
What’s important to you at this stage in your life/career? The money will always come. Where will you get more work for your portfolio? does the DTC at the new place have a big budget? What kind of projects will you be working on there?
I agree with the previous comments. The new opportunity doesn’t sound that great. And the fact that they would be paying more than they planned for you will always be held against you. You’d be starting the job in the hole, trying to prove they didn’t make a mistake. Don’t do that to yourself!
Is 170K vs. 195K really going to put a big dent to your lifestyle?
Which job will you make you excited to wake up Monday morning for?
I think your judgement is clouded. Stay with the money and more PTO.
Yeah don’t take that pay cut unless you think staying where you’re at is going to silo your career if you stay too long. Just my gut reaction.
I wouldn’t move. Sit tight for as long as you can until an opportunity arises that’s an actual upgrade.
Pro
Job 2 might make you happier and allow you to do better work that could open the door to better opportunities down the line. I work in pharma and I’m miserable. Wish I could land something like this.
Prioritize the direct benefit to you (pay, pto etc.) over any false notion of the work being better. The days of true creative being a priority are all but over, and in 5-10 years many of our “careers” will look nothing like we planned. Make the money now, while you can.
Will you be able to do significantly better work to bolster your book for future?
Ideally, but that’s a huge X factor seeing as getting boom work takes so long, if it gets there at all.
Take/ keep the money!! Advertising is not about sexy work as much as it’s about networking and giving you a life to live outside of work!
Stability, higher pay and fewer hours all day, every day.
Is DTC really worth sacrificing money and PTO? We’re talking DTC pharma here, not general market.
You know the answer.
Wonder if you could negotiate some sort of bonus to make up for a lower base, if not never, ever take less money IMO.
They were offering 125k for an ACD role? That's copy sup money.
I would only take a pay cut if I had no job. What are you thinking with this one? Is it the DTC lean?
I couldn’t be caught blind working for consumer email campaigns on Christmas
A $25k pay drop and 6 days less of PTO is a substantial loss. Also, if it is pharna, DTC is being threatened by the current administration, so you are safer working with a company that also has HCP. What do you mean by "no opportunity long term". Are you on a contract or freelance?
Agency 2 has a bad rap for low salaries, but I’m interested in it because some old coworkers are over there and want me on their team.
Go
Stay at the current gig. Take it an advantage to you. There's growth and be more positive for another outcomes.
