Westin vacation club- legit or no?

Do you mean Marriott Vacation Club?

I belong to Hilton Grand Vacation Club. While we have had many great vacations from being members, if I had to do it again, I likely would not have bought a timeshare. The properties we have stayed at have almost universally been fantastic. Full kitchens, more than one bathroom (which both help when vacationing as a family). However locations are sometimes disappointing. For example, trying to find a place near a national park is almost impossible (except near the Smokeys in Tennessee, there are many exchange resorts there). The few that exist near national parks are always booked years in advance. You can find many places to book in Vegas or any location in Florida, but I don't want to keep vacationing in the same location. I like to change it up. Last year, I only had a few choices for our vacation in Maine. So we ended up driving a long distance to visit Acadia. My annual maintenance fees are over $1,200 and there are fees everywhere (booking through RCI has a fee, choosing to hold off on a vacation for another year is another fee, moving Vacation club points to Hilton Hotels is another fee). You cannot expect to book at the last minute. You need to plan your vacations at least 9 months in advance. If you have a family, the ability to book a room with a kitchen and more than one bathroom could make the investment worth it. If you don't have a family, I would suggest you stick with your hotel points.

Honestly, you can get a much better value if you dont buy one, and just rent points whenever you want for maximum flexibility. There is always someone who can’t use theirs one year for one reason or another, and you can usually “rent” their points for the annual maintenance fee. This helps you avoid the insane upfront cost, and you can switch between any of the brands. That being said, if you want to vacation at Disney every year, DVC is the only timeshare that could be worth it for you (*and that comes with a very heavy might).

What's the best credit card to get hotel/flight points in middle east ? Was also hoping to avoid any international transaction fees (like US SPG Amex).

Right now, I have the Southwest Rapid Rewards card because a) when I fly the family, Southwest works best for us (but travel for work is AA). I have 500K+ SW points. Also Hilton Diamond with about 300K points (had more but just redeemed a bunch for a family trip). I hear about the Chase Sapphire Preferred, the AA Citi card that has a big annual fee but includes a lounge membership. My goals are being met (free or cheap travel for family trips), but I wonder if I'm leaving money on the table and could be getting more out of my points earnings. Any suggestions on what I should do differently or change with my strategy?

I sold my soul for SPG points and miles. Winning.... Sort of
