What age would be considered too old to make a major career change? I just turned 40, and I’m thinking about making some meaningful changes. And honestly. I think switching up my career path would have the largest impact on my happiness and sense of purpose. But I’m worried starting fresh at 40 would put me at a disadvantage, especially if I find myself competing with younger professionals. Would I be crazy to start over from square one at 40?

I just did started my own personal trainer busi and I am 45 I just feel like you only live once

You're not crazy at all. 40 definitely isn’t too late. I made a major pivot at 42 and I felt like I was able to bring a lot of perspective and maturity that younger peers didn’t have. Plus a range of different kinds of skills. I understand it's intimidating, but you’re not starting from scratch, you’re starting from experience. Hold onto your current role as you search/build up for your pivot.

You aren't too old to change your career path at 40 unless you want to become a physician or another career that requires many years to become certified.

Once when I was waiting tables, I had a guy pay me cash. The change was 45 cents, which I didn't give back to him because like who wants that. He then asked where the change was, and when I explained that I didn't give back the loose change, he made a big stink about how dollars and cents matter and didn't leave me a tip. He was a republican staffer on capitol hill.

So I have a felony. I interviewed with a recruiter today who was super cheerful and nice. Once I disclosed my felony, which she already knew about since a friend referred me to her, she immediately stopped the interview and said she couldn’t in good faith move forward on my application given the nature of my offense. I explained that I had done my time, paid my fines and restitution and had the experience to become a great asset to the organization. -she suggested I look into bartending.

I don’t know what’s going so wrong.

I have applied to 42 jobs and received 20 rejections, with 0 opportunities to even interview.

My resume is from WSO template, and I used suggested wording from various popular resume websites.

I don’t understand why I’ve gotten such a large amount of rejections. Am I applying to position in under or over qualified for? Does my resume suck? Is it just a bad time to apply? How do I improve from here?

Pivoting away from Sales: I’ve been in sales positions for 15 years, and I’m just exhausted by the role (disputing commissions, arguing about deals, all of it). Can anyone provide any advice, or has anyone successfully moved away from sales?

Do companies sometimes offer "gifts of appreciation" if you're not selected for a merit increase? My manager randomly called me to let me know I was chosen for the "gift" this year bc of my "hard work & dedication", except now I'm learning other colleagues are receiving actual merits.
I mean it's possible that I may receive a merit, but I feel like I won't considering my manager never brought it up & the dept update made it sound like those receiving it should know by now.
