I like to close my questions to them with What made you respond to my candidacy/want to meet with me today?
Makes them state my value and pros themselves and ends on a high note without me having to boast. It also shows me if they get me / if we're on the same page about who they think I am and what I bring. I recommend everyone use it 😉 Good luck 🍀
Great way to end an interview! Well done...and well put in this forum.
“Do you know what a Big Mac is? What ingredient of a Big Mac would you be?”
...I...what?
My experience was over 5 years ago but there was nothing A-typical about the interview. We do not hire stupid people. It’s hard to get a job here
Thanks for the helpful comment Keith!
I like “how would your colleagues describe you”
Also: give an example of a time when you faced a significant challenge and how you addressed it
Or: name a time when you needed to achieve a particular outcome but didn’t have hierarchical authority to do so. How did you achieve the outcome?
While great interview questions, I don’t think these are atypical at all. These are pretty standard and on every “how to prep for an interview” article online
I once got something like, “tell me about you.” 😂 I thought it was ridiculous at the time, but I’d be lying if I said I haven’t used that line in interviews I’m giving now. It’s a good indicator of who they are based on how they choose to answer. Also, interesting to see who is paralyzed by the open ended Q vs the people that run with it/think on their toes.
According to something I read this is the hardest and most important question. Because they’re really asking what do you bring to us.
"who ARE you?" - thanks for the mid-interview existential crisis
Someone asked me what kind of art director I was
Excellent! Most interviewers are not expecting that quality of response. It shows you have thought through yourself as well as you would think through a client project.
One time i was asked, “unfair question i know.. but if you had to come up with a tagline right now what would it be? What about a campaign? Thinking back to our website, what design changes could be made to make it better?”
This was for an in house internship. I accepted the offer, then my school told me to turn it down because it would be unpaid and overworking me as a student. So glad i did. I should’ve realized it was sketchy from those questions alone
I got asked “Do you get bored easily?”
What book I was reading. I happened to be reading a book called “Men On My Couch” so that’s what I responded and it probably sounded a bit weird.
