What are some companies that are good with diversity in PDX? I thrive best at large companies but I am seeing that a lot of the large companies out here have almost no diversity. I am mostly concerned about the potential for discrimination related to sexual orientation. I don't like needing to worry about walking on glass as far as worrying about people knowing that I am gay. I like being comfortable with who I am at work.

Kaiser Permanente is LGBTQ friendly. Regional president is an out gay man. Head of member call center nationally is a trans woman. The company is big enough you can move around a lot; I'm on my 7th job in 15 years. Stellar benefits too.

I mean yeah there are more heterosexual people in the world so it doesn’t surprise me they’re straight but why is that a big deal? Do you hate straight white men or something?
I have never heard a recruiter say the office is conservative and they want a cultural fit unless maybe you’re very colorful, have piercings on the face etc. not saying that’s a bad thing but most corporations don’t consider that a professional look.

Cambia health solutions is a very inclusive company with a LGBTQIA resource group, a very strong emphasis on DEI, etc.

Kaiser. Our motto is “just when you think you’ve had enough diversity training/offerings, here comes some more “

Note - that’s meant to be funny, but in all seriousness we take diversity very seriously. We have diversity ingrained into our fiber and I highly recommend it for our LGBTQ friends

Working at a company and they can’t seem to hold on to their female, black and people of color employees. I blinked and 3 of the people who were in my onboarding class were either fired or they left. For context I’ve been in company less than a year and there are people who have been in the company 25yrs. I’m thinking of cutting loose before it gets to my turn.

I got feedback from my manager telling me that I should always have an opinion, which is very hard in group settings, esp. when people are talking about a topic unrelated to my module. Any thoughts ?

Senior revving up to manager promo. Only nervous about one thing at the manager level which is having to answer pointed “Why??” questions from higher up clients on live calls. Any one else work through something like this? I’d appreciate any tips or suggestions as I really suck at dealing with unexpected push back.

If you don’t have a CD above you and you are doing the work, do you just send it off or do you ask other creatives for their take? Seems weird to just do work and present it without a gut check from somewhere.

I have a direct report who is smart, passionate about her job and can be really innovative. However she carries this enormous weight of responsibility, for needing to do everything, do it right, make sure it's perfect, not trusting colleagues to help. It creates dread and panic and overwhelming workload and a terrible attitude for her and I am speaking with her this week to start to shift her mindset. Any tips in navigating how to let go of this heavy idea of "responsibility"?

Anyone else struggling with moving forward I. Their company? I work with three men and two women, the two women are not in my department but the three men are. It feels like I am being held back simply because I am female. I have done everything they have done and I work three times harder then two of them. Just really frustrated at this point.

Have you seen women wear ties and "masculine"-looking suits to work? Was it accepted by client and team? I've never worn a tie to work, but when I've worn clothing that had a more "masculine" fit either in grad school or some work environments, I've gotten comments and looks, or sometimes asked (or people gossiped) about my orientation. When I wear more "feminine"-looking clothing, I feel more more uncomfortable and awkward. 🤷🏼‍♀️

PARTNERS: two questions —1. If you see an associate has really low hours for the month, do you imagine them chillen on a beach somewhere or do you consider they probably spent most of their days sitting in front of the computer being “available”? 2. If you send an associate a random e-mail on a weekend like “Can you pull X and send to Y”, would you get annoyed if they responded saying they weren’t by a comp or would you consider it reasonable that they wouldn’t be by a comp on a weekend?
