What industry jobs are available for someone coming from tax in public accounting? I feel that the opportunities are much more limited compared to those with an audit background

Opportunities are much more limited for tax professionals. I would say your primary exit opportunities to industry are internal tax reporting/consulting roles. I made the switch from tax to TAS so that I could expand my exits from public accounting.

I think tax compliance jobs are in demand. At least at Verizon they are, but turnover is high for a reason lol.

Pretty much just more tax.

I would target Fp&a/finance roles if that’s what interests you, but realize they might not come as easily as they might for auditors. I think it’s most important to get into a good company, one that’s goal is to keep/reward good talent. Get in there work hard, then try to transfer - I went from tax to accountant > financial analyst > senior analyst > finance manager in a matter of 2.5 years which doesn’t happen at most companies. I think people in tax are used to working really hard on boring tasks, if you can keep that same drive/ethic in industry you’ll stand out.

Agree tax is limited. Less-so if you have a corporate tax/provision background. Specializing in operating passthroughs makes it tougher to exit

Industry tax if you want to avoid any set back. Or pivot to accounting or fp&a role if you at least have corp tax experience in PA.
