What internships are best to break into investment banking? Currently a freshman in college and having a hard time finding an IB internship in my area, would me interning as a banker or something related to the finance/economic field help my resume? Thanks in advance!

Internships are pretty hard to land if you don’t network. Do you go to school in a big city? Like NY or Chicago?

like

No unfortunately i live in maryland but it's about 20 minutes from DC which is sort of a big city.. you suggest I network there?

Also I'm currently doing this google certificate for data analytics and plan on taking the SIE exam soon (been taking the practice test and been doing decently) would these be a good look on my resume? Any input would be appreciated!

If you aren’t attending a target school, it’s is statistically extremely unlikely you will get into a large and well-known investment bank (unless your dad is an MD or a client)

A good course of action would be to look into something with banking, asset management, or even a smaller boutique investment bank. It’s not impossible, but coming from a non-target myself there is a longer path we need to follow in order to get there.

Got it , and what are these steps that we (non target students) have to take to become an IB in the future? Would I have to get my MBA at a target school then apply for the IB role?

It’s discouraging because I’m a fast learner, and from talking to my friends who are Financial Analysts, it doesn’t seem like what we do is so dissimilar.

Hi everyone, I'm new to Canada and want to start my career here in the Financial and Banking industry. I have passed the CFA level 2 exam and was wondering if I have to complete the Canadian Securities Course (CSC) as most of the job postings here mention about it. I saw that if someone passes at least the CFA level 1 exam then the requirement of CSC is exempted. Can anyone enlighten me about this? As the CSC exam costs above 1000 CAD, I wanted to be sure if I need it before investing behind it.
