Some people with a background at the IRS have been super respected members of KPMG’s Washington National Tax practice
Maybe I'm mistaken, but I think you go to the IRS so that you can live that government life forever - it's not a career stepping stone...
Yep, this right here.
Chief
Dispute resolutions team at Big4. Or golfing on that government pension.
Its not that much. The pension.
Director at b4/National and they leverage you for your contacts?
My understanding is that careers generally go down one of two (very different) paths when you take a job at the IRS. You'll have people who take positions like revenue agent roles where the earnings ceiling is relatively low but in exchange you are pretty much guaranteed a great work life balance and some sort of pension when you retire. And then you have the people (generally attorneys) who go over to the IRS for a couple years to do things like draft legislation, build up their networks with the higher ups, and then lateral over to a B4 in a director/partner role.
Sr. Revenue agents on GS14 salaries can be a pretty cushy gig. Can get to about SM level salary before OT and work on 40 hours per week.
Just guessing but I would think you could make decent money speaking and publishing CPE materials. Of course that would depend on your presentation skills as well.
Anyone know how the IRS pension is?
They give 5% of your salary as a 401k match equivalent and then there is an additional amount provided as an annuity.
